Propecia 'Is a Bad Drug,' Says Seeking Alpha Analyst

Sharon di Stefano, a healthcare analyst whose experience includes clinical research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, offers this analysis of Propecia in her latest Seeking Alpha column:

“Propecia, originally Proscar made by Merck & Co. (MRK) for prostate cancer, is a bad drug. Men take it to combat baldness, equated, in their minds, with aging but ironically, it can cause impotence. Imagine men in their late twenties or early thirties with thinning patches of scalp hair or receding hairlines that reach for the nearest pill their doctors recommend - only to render them with lessened libidos and limp equipment. This is not the worst of Propecia’s side effects; others include swelling of breast tissue and weight gain.”

Seems everybody knows this but who cares or who is doing anything about it?

Exactly. It’s like some house down the street is on fire – a raging inferno – and all the neighbors are standing around for hours saying, “Well, I guess someone should call the fire department.”

But no one calls.

It’s not obvious though. Even guys currently on the drug will vehemently deny it. However there is definitely an element of health professionals that are aware of the risks but choose to ignore them.
