Propecia and Prostatitis

I am a 26 year old male who has been on propecia now for about 3 - 3.5 years. I’ve continued it because it actually works and my hair hasn’t fallen out since starting it. In March of 2007, I started experiencing prostate issues, i.e., burning upon urination and pain in that area. I was diagnosed as having prostatitis. Now I’m freaking out because I’ve gone through antibiotic therapy and it has failed. I’ve been reading about propecia and i’m freaked out about it’s effects on people. I always thought it was a safe drug.

I definitely do not want to be impotent, and I want to cure myself from prostatitis. Does everyone recommend me stopping this drug? I spoke with the doctor who prescribed it to me, and he said there’s nothing dangerous about the drug and that I should keep taking it if it’s working. Please help.

If Finasteride is giving you issues, you have to weigh what’s more important – your health or your hair.

If it were me I’d quit. And everyone here would probably also say the same thing, because this forum is for guys that QUIT and continued to experience problems (however, we are in the minority). Most likely if you quit you shouldn’t have any issues.

You might want to try the brocolli treatment or Quercetin for Prostatitis. Google “Prostatitis treatment” and you’ll have lots of answers.

You should try to get full blood tests done before you quit, as outlined in the Bloodworks section of this website, because it could help you later …no problem Mew :laughing:

I’m confused. I thought finasteride actually help reduce an enlarged prostate. How would it help to stop taking it? Wouldn’t that just make it worse? Or are there cases where it “backfires” and actually worsens the prostate’s condition?

Yes, it has fucked up many a prostate on this forum. Just do a quick search up top for “prostatitis”…
Propecia has screwed up many of our prostates. Whatever it does to it.
I swear I have seen or heard of at least 30 guys who have had extreme prostatitis after Propecia use, so don’t say yu weren’t warned if you have problems!

I am still experiencing some slight prostate problems, although it FINALLY has gotten MUCH MUCH better since New Years. But I suffered BADLY for about 8 months!! Wanted to kill myself for many months. Walked around like a dead person.
