Excellent site!
I’m a new visitor to this forum, and I’ve been taking Propecia/finasteride for the past 2 years. I believe it has helped my hair somewhat, though the possible sexual and acne (extremely oily skin and worsened cystic acne has coincided with my finasteride use) side effects have become unbearable.
I’m seriously considering stopping the drug, but I first want to get my hormone levels, etc. checked out by a very good doctor in southern calif. Can anyone recommend a doctor familiar with Propecia side effects, hormone levels, etc.?
As painful as it is to do, I think I’m prepared to experience some hair shedding in order to stop taking a drug that may be messing with my hormones. Again, it’s a tough choice… but I supposed it’s what I might have to do in order to lose the side effects (sexual, acne, etc.). The longer I’m on it, staying on Propecia for life seems less and less like a good idea.
Anyway, I’m 28 years old, and I received a hair transplant (with a rather large graft count) for the frontal portion of my head about 2 months ago. Still waiting for the transplanted hair to grow in, but I feel good that it will be a pleasing result. I’ve put my confidence in a top hair transplant doc who has transformed many norwood 6 and norwood 7 patients and whose work I’ve researched and been impressed with. My plan is to get future transplant procedures for the top and crown areas, hopefully as a way to offset the likely shedding that will probably result in those areas if I stop taking Propecia. My goal is to get enough transplants to at least get me to a density level (in my top and crown areas) that is somewhat comparable to where I’m at right now. FYI: I am a norwood 4 with diffuse thinning. Currently my hair is thin and miniaturized throughout the top and crown areas.
Obviously this whole ordeal has been very difficult, as I’m sure it has been for the rest of you, so I won’t bore you all with the details… I just feel ready to do something about it and get things moving in the right direction.
What percentage of guys have noticed that these side effects are permanent after stopping Propecia? I sure hope the side effects go away if I stop taking Propecia. Once again, is anyone able to recommend any helpful southern California doctors to help me diagnose and/or treat my possible/likely Finasteride side effects? It would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thank you in advance!
