On the way to Recovery

anonnn1 - what symptoms do you have?

have you ever tried antibiotics? doxycycline?

also are you still losing your hair?

19 - no one cares about that.

only asking as if you are - the androgen receptor must be working and DHT is still being produced and is active - if not - then maybe its not. I suspect the people who are still losing their hair are more likely to be able to recover as the DHT is still functioning.

Well, today I got my first unassissted erection at work while watching a training video. It was 4:10am in the morning and the video was very boring and I was practically falling asleep. My erection was very strong, this is probably the kind of erection I experience while sleeping considering I was half asleep while watching it. I had to try to manuever myself so my penis wouldn’t be sticking straight out while I sat up.

19, I actually started growing more hair after quitting Fin. I don’t know why, but my hairline is quite low, it’s actually come down about an inch or more and it looks like it’s not stopping anytime soon.

I started sweating on the top of my head recently. I do believe my recovery has been greatly assissted by thyroid medication, it’s practically all I’ve been taking.

I wish someone else here would go on Synthroid for a month and see if they recover so I could see if it’s the thyroid medication that’s doing this or if I’m just naturally recovering. I haven’t experienced any negative sides with Synthroid. The only thing it seems to have done is increase my metabolism and fingernail/hair growth. My hair has become thicker and softer while I started to go on it, it also has caused me to sweat a lot.

The way I’ve been going now I think I’ll make a full recover within the next couple months hopefully. My testicles have gotten bigger and I feel like my T levels have increased since the hot flashes are gone now, I also sleep very well.

19,

I lost a ton of hair over the last month. Kind of scary how much actually. I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my condition as well. Its kind of weird, I can feel the scalp burning at times and my libido seems to increase parallel to the burning. I’ve had the best stretch of improvement over the last ten days and then yesterday I felt like I went backward a bit. Hopefully, I can start another run soon.

To your point, I think paying attention to your hair is a good marker for whether or not DHT is being produced in some cases. My last blood work showed very low DHT. I get a new round of blood work done Monday. I’d be willing to bet that DHT has gone up. I don’t understand why a lot of the regulars are so anal about mentioning hair. We all know that ‘no one cares about hair anymore’.

boston2009 just went on a thyroid product so he can correlate his results with you if your looking for conformation that thyroid is the issue.

Yeah, we’ve never talked to each other but from how he talks about it we’ve had the same results.

I don’t want to belittle the men who have been suffering from Fin, but wouldn’t it be something if this problem could all be solved by a 1 mg pill?

Bostonusa2009 is on Armour. I didn’t want to go on that because I’ve heard more side effects than synthroid. Also since my parents take synthroid I thought I’d be more compatable with it.

Synthroid is also known as Levothyroxine which produces a synethetic form of Thyroxine.

Do not want to downplay your situation or theories but I’m almost positive you’re simply recovering naturally and the synthroid is simply doing nothing to help or hurt your situation.

Sorry I’ve been away. Lots of changes have happened to me, better and worse.

I got my test back. It shocked me. This was on 7/21/10 that I had it done.

My Testosterone level was 126.

I had another test on 8/4/10.

This showed that I had a Testosterone level of over 600.

I’m still only on Synthroid, but my body has been going up and down lately.

When did you get each of these respective test done (time of day) and what is getting better or worse symptom wise? thought u were recovered?

Both were early morning, around 10:00am.

I can’t explain the tests, I actually felt better with a Low T then I did with the high T.

I thought I recovered, but over the last weeks of july I noticed something was going wrong.

However now I’m feeling better than ever than even before. I’m starting to get my acne back, little white heads and red heads over my face, my olive skin is back. Hair is getting thicker, wonder if Fin cures baldness after cessation. I shed a lot of hairs but not going bald, my hairline is going lower. I know it’s not a hair loss forum but it’s a thing I’m happy about.

My hair’s getting thicker everywhere, forgot I even had hair in some places.

and what did your endocrinologist say of the 126 reading?

I quit him, the guy’s incompetent. Wanted to give me Testim.

I went back to my primary doctor who said he’d need to treat me by giving me hCG and Clomid. He treats athletes and a lot of his patients have abused steroids so he knows what to do.

Though, considering my Testosterone Level has recovered again in just a matter of 2 weeks. Going from a mere 126 to over 600. Previous to the 126, 2 months before that I was 429 and that was a week off propecia.

Seems like I may just be recovering naturally, but I don’t know, I’ll wait for my next blood test, that’ll be next tuesday when I go, we’ll see how it is.

I might not need to go on hCG and Clomid if I am recovering naturally.

Though for a while I nearly crashed again in just a short amount of time, but I’ve been taking klonopin for anxiety and oxycodone for pain.

I’m still on synthroid only.

wanting to give you testim doesn’t mean he is necessarily incompetent, having a T level under 200 means it is a justified treatment - however, we know that given our situation it isn’t the answer and it doesn’t work, no doctor knows this though.

He’s incompetent because he’s not doing full testing on me, I wanted him to test my FSH and LH, and twice he did not. The only thing he has been testing on me was my testosterone.

So I returned to my regular doctor since he knows more about this problem than even the Endo does. This is florida remember, my doctor told me all the endos around here suck.

Besides that my T is now above 600, not sure of the exact number since I got the results over the phone. That’s all I know though unfortunately, I don’t know why my T recovered so quickly but this seems to be the case in all of us, we recover a little bit, crash and recover again.

I feel better now then I did then when I had that test taken. I have very strong erections now, probably as strong as they were before propecia. Actually my penis hurts when I masturbate, probably due to not having achieved such a strong erection in practically a year. Also I have a lot more semen come out.

Also I’m not pissing as much as I used to, my piss isn’t clear as much as it used to be and I can hold it for long durations, before I couldn’t.

I’m sure the thyroid medication has helped me attain this, it’s not just a natural recovery in my opinion. The only thing I’m worried about now is the hair over my body, I want it to become thicker. That’s all I need now.

Hair growth growth comes in cycles so this could take awhile - but if your sexual sides are in check consider yourself blessed

I’m not peeing as much as I normally did in my pre-fin state. That always made me wonder… Because all I drink is milk and water. Do you have any idea as to why? something in the prostate perhaps? Usually when you have an enlarged prostate you pee more often… I just find it funny how we pee less often… Perhaps because we are retaining water? however I havent gained or lost weight since ive quit… been around 130 the entire time…

If you are unsure wether or not that medication is helping you… perhaps stop taking it for a week and see if you stay the same.?

Alright, an update.

First off I’ve been on clomid for a week now and I’d have to say my 75% natural recovery before I went on it was a bit far sighted of me. I had no idea how bad my condition really was.

I’d say that my natural recovery over 5 months was about less than 1% of what clomid has done for me in a week.

Since taking clomid now for a week I notice a lot of changes. My acne for one is back which is something I am strangely glad to see. My heat flashes have disappeared. What was left of my brain fog has vanished entirely. Cognitive function is much better overall, I’m starting to naturally sweat again, my sense of sight, smell and vision have all improved. I’m sleeping better, also dreaming very well.

One thing that absolutely petrified me after my first dose was a burning sensation I felt underneath my skin when I was laying in bed later that night. It was especially bad around my groin area, back, shoulders and arms. I wonder what that was about.

I also have slight pain in my testicles from time to time. Feels like something is forming around my testicles, feels uneasy sometimes if I touch them.

Overall I just feel great now, clomid is a miracle drug in my eyes.

I’ve talked about this before fellas but now I do think my recovery will be inevitable very shortly.

First just let me post my recent Blood Tests.

TSh, 3rd Generation: .02 Range .4-4.5
T4 Total: 16.3 Range 4.5-12.5
T3, Free: 506 Range 230-420
Thyroid Perodidase Antibodies: 864 Range <35

Basically my thyroid indicates Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto’s Disease. The reason why my levels are so high is because the synthroid I’m taking it is too high a dose. However this is to be expected as my thyroid will constantly flucuate.

Vitamin B12: 357 Range 200-1100

Cortisol, Total: 2.3 Range 4.0-22
ATCH, PLASMA: 12 Range 7-50

I believe my Cortisol and ATCH indicates adrenal fatigue. It would explain a majority of my problems as I do feel as if I am hypoglycemic.

DHEA Sulfate: 201 Range 110-510 (Not too bad compared to most here)

Estradiol: 50 Range 13-54 (Estrogen is way too high, I’m going to insist my Doctor put me on arimidex if my levels do not change next blood test)

PSA, Total: .8 Range < OR = 4.0 (My prostate is in good health)

Ok now for the most important test.

Testosterone, Total: 313 Range 250-1100
Testosterone, Free Percent: 1.08 Range 1.5-2.2
Free Testosterone 33.8 Range 35-155

Dihydrotestosterone: 62 Range 25-75

I believe if I can lower my estrogen levels my testosterone will increase, right now I believe the high estrogen is inhibiting my T. One thing that suprised me was how high my DHT was and how low my ATCH and Cortisol was compared to most others here.

Right now my doctor has put me on clomid, I starting taking Clomid just before I had these blood tests so we won’t see any result from my current treatment until my next blood test on 9-23-10, but I do believe it will be better judging from how I feel. He also put me on klonopin to take intermintently due to my high levels of anxiety that I feel were brought on by Fin.

I had an MRI on my Pituitary, it was normal. I’m also going to have an ultrasound on my Adrenals/Kidneys as well as my Thyroid tomorrow morning.

I have very good insurance. Bloodtests that would cost over $500 only cost me $10, and my MRI only cost me $17, it would’ve cost $2,000.

I have no desire for sex however, that does not mean I have ED. If I wanted to I could look up porno and jerk off with no problem. The problem for me right now is desire. I believe my testiscles have doubled in size since March. I never had any problem with penile shrinkage like most of you gentlemen here, actually when I was fin it caused my penis to become longer and wider. I had a small penis before I went on Fin, it was only 5.5 inches long while erect, it has reverted back to that size now since taking Clomid and Klonopin. I felt my penis was just too heavy.

I’ve only been on Clomid for 2 weeks now but I can already feel a lot of improvement, most of the days I feel like crap is due to my thyorid.

Also I would like to challenge the notion that DHT causes baldness. My hair looks better than ever since quitting fin and I have high DHT. If DHT causes baldness then I should have bald spots or thin spots, but I don’t. I think that entire industry has somehow sold us the notion that DHT is evil and causes MPB.
