Not being a smart ars, real question

hey guys, I have the same symptoms as alot of the guys on here, but im confused. There are less than 300 registered users on this website out of the hundreds of thousands of guys that have used FIN.

Why are we getting hit with permanent side effects. There has got to be more to this than the FIN. By that I mean a combination of factors. FIN + Chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, hormonal inbalance, poor/unrefreshing sleep.

I have been wondering this myself lately.
Could it be :

-Low % body fat.
-High anxiety to begin with.
-Enlarged prostate to begin with.
-High blood sugar

Does anyone ever wake up in the morning, with erection, and feel fine, like nothing is the matter, and feel like they are normal, until they just start moving a little, or thinking, or getting a little anxious about the day, and then all the symptoms of discomfort and dick problems come on right away?? This happens to me.

Yes to pretty much everything you said. I have low body fat, ive always been skinny, always had anxiety issues, always have been predisposed to depression.

I’m more inclined to believe its a matter of genetics/gene encoding that makes some men more susceptible.

For example, in the following study, men with the more common A-allele experienced more side effects of alcohol than those with the G-allele. And related to this, “Among the A-allele homozygotes, there was a greater reduction in several subjective effects during the finasteride session compared to the placebo session”

Now I’m making a stretch here in comparing alcohol dependence to Finasteride effects, but the fact Fin affected those with the A-allele moreso than the others says something to me that this drug operates at the genetic level and thus we may all share a common genetic trait that made us susceptible to the permanent side effects.

The other reason I believe this is due to what Dr. Shippen told a former patient:

“He believes that Propecia switched off a gene or something like that, perhaps one that controls the conversion of testosterone to DHT”

So in no way do I think this is related to poor sleep, low bodyweight, depression or other pre-existing conditions one may have had. You guys all know how you were before the drug, and things have changed since taking it. The drug is the common factor here, not – for example – one guy being fat and the other skinny. It affects our HTPA, our endocrine system, prostate and neurotransmitters… THAT is the common factor.

Yes, but often that common allele, or genetic trait will exhibit other indicators, such as low body fat…
Plus, for me at least, medication affects me a lot. I have always been very very sensitive to any and all medications. I don’t know whay I didn’t think of this when I started taking fin. I just thought it was a very very small dosage of a safe drug, but anyway, that said, I have met many many skinny small people, high stress kinda people, fast metabolisms, that have all been very very sensitive to medications, and any drug. Most of these people can’t and don’t even take drugs becuse of this.

See most drugs I think are maybe fat soluble, so in this case they may get absorbed by fat more as opposed to some of us where the drug just floated around in our blood streams, coagulated in our prostate glands, idk, and really caused some damage. Idk, just a theory.

I believe that this might be a gene thing, but more probably our endochrine systems just have been out of power. Now looking backwards I see that my adrenal function was suboptimal even before taking finasteride. Then the whole system collapsed to some extent on the drug causing the more visible side effects.

BTW FYI I do not have very low body fat, neither am I fat. I guess having normal body fat would picture me best.

Is there any evidence that any other substance has the ability to shut off or alter genes? The FIN shutting of genes thing just sounds strange.

also has anyone found that they have the inability to convert testosterone to DHT through bloodwork.

no that i think of it i have similar traits as far i have always been prone to depression and i am sensitive to drugs as well i had my first pill when i was 10 it was an asprin and i passed out. i was wondering if anyone on this site has acne because i have always have had alot of acne and that could be a common factor between us. I have read that acne and baldness go together pretty well, and acne is charactorised by excess androgens. The primary and most well-known androgen is testosterone.
