i have been off now for 7 months and contrary to what merck says (like that really makes a difference) after ceasing use the individual should lose all the hair they gained in 6 months to a year. i have not really started shedding hair at any significant rate (maybe ever so slightly but not really anything noticeable, or like before taking p). has anyone else not really started shedding their hair after several months off and does anyone have any explanations for this? i am assuming its because our dht levels have not returned to normal? has anyone approached the problem from this angle?
Had this myself up until 14 months off the drug then my loss rapidly starting picking up the pace. Now at 20 months off shedding faster than ever… sides have lessened slightly (nowhere near recovered, however) so I believe there is a correlation here. My last bloodtest showed my DHT in upper limit.
It’s because the Finasteride has permanently impaired your DHT receptors. The good news is you will never go bald; your hereditary hair loss is cured, PERMANENTLY.
I stopped propecia about 16 months ago. My hair loss is worse than ever and I am almost completely bald on top now. However, my sex drive has not improved at all and I havn’t had a single morning erection since June.
Is this a joke? Why would someone get back on the very medication which caused them massive sexual, mental, physical and other health problems in the first place? Sheer stupidity.
JohnC43, with all due respect, but your comments/questions lately aren’t very well thought out. In fact, they’re a bit offensive and/or annoying to me; I can guess they’re annoying to others as well.
Please read the forum’s topic–this is for men who NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS wanna’ touch this toxin again and are deeply affected by this drug. So before you write a question such as the aforequoted, think about how what you’re saying could be interpreted by us and how some of us might be offended.
Sorry, I meant no offense. I can see how my reply could be offensive, however and I apologize. It makes sense that you would not ever consider ingesting fin again, but I have heard of some people so down on their losses that figured going back on propecia would at least give them some hair out of the deal. Ideally, the side effects can be reversed at some point in the future, hopefully soon. I just didn’t know if this was ever considered.
I’ve heard by stopping Propecia hair loss will “catch up” to your baseline levels had you never taken Propecia in the first place. How long does this take – 4 months, 12? My idea is that perhaps this number correllates with waning side effects.
For me it took well over a year for hairloss to resume at it’s normal pace… which coincidentally is at the point where my mental side effects only even began to start improving little by little.
Have you tried broccoli? Diindolymethane (DIM) in broccoli is supposed to metabolise pharmaceuticals faster.
And when you say little by little, how many months between when you first started feeling mental side effects improving and when you felt “completely improved”?
Yea I tried some DIM supplements on and off for a few weeks at a time… didn’t really do much but could have been the brand I was using. Brocolli treatment helped for a few days with getting my junk to hang looser and more full, but didn’t last.
I’m not “completely” improved, but between years 2-3 off drug is when mental clarity started to get much better.
As far as I’m aware “adrenal fatigue” is a general term, not a legitimate diagnosis recognized by the medical community at large. Can’t comment on it beyond that.
Also, would like to try and avoid having this thread get off-topic as it is about hairloss after quitting. Cheers.
I seemed to always had hair loss being on propecia. My hair loss was never gradual tho, it was sudden and rapid. I started propecia and then found out I had hypothyroidism which was probably the cause. Ive been off propecia for 5 months now and it seems to pretty much be the same with hairs just falling out so easily. I think it doesnt act like rogaine where what hairs it grows will all fall out quickly. Propecia I think will just start you right where you left off cause its blocking the dht from shrinking the follicle. Once its not blocking the dht, then the normal cycle will continue with dht shrinking the follicle.
Mew, would you include the slurring of speech within mental clarity or not?
Also, for everyone interested, why use DIM supplements when you can use the real thing – broccoli? And plus, isn’t DIM only produced once digested? I don’t understand how they could get that in a capsule.
Hmm, if we get DIM from digestion of broccoli, then we could easily get it assuming a simple chemical reaction. Take the chemical compounds in broccoli and mix it with HCl (hydrochloric acid is the main component used to digest substances in the stomach). From this, you’d get DIM (assuming the former) as a product yielded from the reactants.
As for everyone JUST eating broccoli, from what I am aware of, to get the same amount that you get in the pills, you have to eat like a pound or two of broccoli a day and drink the juice. Kind of a pain in the ass, especially if you’re a busy American like me .
