Dilemma for Men with Hair Loss: Bald or Impotence?

So from what I understand from this study is that at least 1 in every 100 people who take Finasteride will develop PFS ?

Good quote from Dr Goldstein…

nbcnews.com/health/mens-heal … se-n731841

No, not good quote from Dr. Goldstein.

SUPERB quote:

“Goldstein, who was not involved in the study, said he was not reassured to learn that just 1.4 percent of men had long-term problems. ‘If it is 1.4 percent and there are several million people on this product, you looking at 300,000 men rendered impotent by a hair loss drug. Their only crime in life is to take an FDA-approved drug.’”

This latest study and the resultant news coverage is just fantastic. It is studies like this in black and white that will have a fundamental effect on the tide turning for this drug. A greater than 1% chance of becoming permanently impotent, unlike the criminal lies Merck peddled for years. Thank goodness for studies like this. I’m sure that more will come. Thanks PR123 for bringing this to our attention.

I was equally enthused to see this new study. I know it’s not the kind of science that leads us closer to a cure. However…

This appears to be the first hard evidence that finasteride causes PERMANENT damage in a critical mass of men.

That in turn should make it easier to win settlements from Merck.

Which in turn will mean more money we can invest in research toward a cure.

So indirectly Dr. Belknap’s research helps us immensely.

Side Effects of Anti-Baldness Drug: Persistent Erectile Dysfunction
palembang.tribunnews.com/2017/03 … ggu-ereksi

Interesting that the study stated that the average duration for persistent erectile dysfunction is 4.2 years. Where did they come up with that? I’m over 10 years now, I wish it was 4.2 years.

I think they were just saying that of all the people who have had PED, the average case was 4.2 years at the time the study was conducted. It is a little unclear, but I don’t think they mean people recovered after an average of 4.2 years.

According to “Der Spiegel” (german magazine) 1.4% of patients taking finasteride had persistent sexual symptoms with an average duration of over 3 years. What percentage of the population between the ages of the study participants have persistent sexual symptoms without taking anything? Thats the important question to assess the studies significance in proving our case. Because thats the first question the skeptics will ask to discredit the studies findings.

Apparently the longer you take finasteride the higher the likelyhood of developing persistent symptoms even after discontinuation. And for the younger guys that effect is most pronounced: If you take finasteride for over 200 days the likelyhood of developing PFS is 5 times higher!

Not sure thats true. Quoting from the study:

“The median duration of PED in young men was 1,534 days.”

And the table posted in the study says the following:

Median year of cohort entry: 2006” !!!

See for yourself: peerj.com/articles/3020/

That seems to suggest that the average case lasts 1534 days and then recovers. The reason: 2006 is over 10 years back thus the median duration should be longer than 1534 days if it is permanent.

Maybe it has to be understood in the following way: Patients recovered from ED after 1534 days but might still suffer from PFS. After all many have no ED but severe PFS. The study didnt test for PFS, but for PED. In that sense the study paints a rosier picture than reality, as people suffering from PED after discontinuation (1.4%) are only a small subgroup of PFS sufferers. The positive aspect is that people do recover from PED. The negative aspect is that this says little about recovery chances of PFS.

Thats at least how I interpret the study. Maybe someone who understands this better can chime in.

1.4% develop persistent ED (subcategory of PFS). What % develops PFS (with or without ED symptom)? A much higher percentage (see my post above)!

Correction: My above analysis is incorrect: Cohort entry (for table 1) is not dependent on discontinuation (see additional information at the bottom of table 1) .
Thus my above theory falls apart.

I.E: My new interpretation is that the average just means how long the symptoms have lasted at study end. It does not mean that after this number of days the people recovered (on average). Sadly.

Daily Mail: Donald Trump’s hair loss drug tied to anger, depression, and self-harm in new medical study
dailymail.co.uk/health/artic … z4c4JA1aoE

“During the first 18 months, however, the men using 5ARIs had an 88 percent higher risk of harming themselves. That risk did not extend beyond 18 months.”

“Men in the 5ARI group also had a 94 percent higher risk of depression in the first 18 months, compared to men not using these drugs. Beyond 18 months, the increased risk of depression fell to 22 percent.”

“The proportion of men taking 5ARIs and experiencing erectile dysfunction is likely around 5 percent, according to Dr. Landon Trost, who is head of andrology and male infertility at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.”

“A separate study in the journal PeerJ evaluated another concern about 5ARIs - erectile dysfunction. Drs. Tina Kiguradze and William Temps of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and colleagues found that when erectile dysfunction occurred in men taking 5ARIs for at least 180 days, the dysfunction was more likely to last at least 90 days after stopping the medication.”

METRO: Donald Trump’s baldness pills are linked to depression and self-harm

The Telegraph (one of the most respected newspapers in the UK)

I’ve been using Donald Trump’s hair loss treatment for years – here is the truth about its side effects

http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&f=29&t=11560

Recently we have seen major newspapers in the UK reporting on Propecia and it’s link to Donald Trump. However, our left wing media dislike DT so I’d expect these stories to be published again in the future. There must be plenty of men who have PFS and are unaware their symptoms are due to Propecia so regardless of the attack on Trump it’s still good PR. If Trump gets PFS you can bet he won’t rest until he finds a cure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump didn’t already have some PFS symptoms. His wife doesn’t live with him, is hardly ever seen with him, uses the excuse that she had had to stay in NYC for him to finish grade school! No sex there. My PFS started somewhat mildly with ED. When the ED hit I quit fin and was mostly stable for the first year before the wheels came off. Trump is going to really suffer if he gets the depression/anxiety part of PFS because he has no place to hide, which is what I wanted to do when it hit me. Might be the reason he is always going to Florida to hide out.

Lol. More likely is that he doesnt have PFS. Only the minority get severe symptoms.

Recent studies posted on this site state slightly more than 1% of users get pfs, that’s one out of a hundred. Really not low odds. If the lotto odds were one out of a hundred I’d be buying tickets like crazy. One out of a hundred Trump could get pfs. Think about it.
