New Member and my story.. Hey!

Hey all, new member here. Im 23years, male and have been taking 1.25 proscar every second day for 4 years. It worked to stabalize my hairloss but ive had sexual sides for basically tho whole time. I can masturbate but cant get an erection on its own will. Pretty much have zero libido.

My plan of attack is to lower dosage over the next 2 months until im completely out of my last pack of pills. Reason for me cutting down is because ive started a new hairloss treatment that i beleive will take time to take effect before i completely drop the proscar. I sware im not here to sell anything but feel i should give all my details of my journey. Ive built a 500 diode laser helmet which ive been using for 4 months now and want the hair to all thicken up before i completely stop the proscar. (ive read that talk about hairloss prevention is useless on this site but wasnt sure where people stood on lasers as building your own laser helmet like im doing has NEVER been done in the past until the last year where a few people in another forum and myself have started doing making them). If this is unexceptable than that is the LAST i will speak of it as i really am here to help my libido/erection problems.

I decided to join at this point so i could get opinions on wether weening off would be a good idea.

I just qualified as an electrician and am leaving to work in the mines for 2 years. I want to earn my fortune while im young and thought this would be the perfect time in my life to try reverse the side effects that proscar has done to me as i wont be seeing many females while im away.

A few more points about my situation…

I exercise 4 times a week and eat a very well balanced healthy diet.
I get testicle pain daily.
I feel as tho mentally proscar has effected my every day thoughts.

Ive been on alot of forums and i understand that most new members ask questions that have already been asked so i promise i willl try my hardest to help our problem and not ask the same questions twice.

My first few questions tho are this. Is recovery time dependent on usage time or is everyones generally different?

Also any advice on where i should start would be great… Example… What are the latest natural supplements etc to help.

I get the idea that Alot of evercise and Alot of sleep is great and basically that time is the hardest but main thing.

Thanks for reading and look forward to my recovery

I wish you all the best in your attempt to recover, but I frankly can’t believe that hair is so important to you that you’ve persisted through four years of sexual and mental side effects and are willing to go for another two months just to secure a new hair loss regimen. I’m three years younger than you and I have no qualms about shaving my head tomorrow. Life is long, and I’ve realized some time ago just how insignificant hair is when compared to your overall health. Like I said though, I still hope you recover from your sides as soon as possible.

Nobody cares about hairloss here, pls do not discuss concerns about your hair on this forum.

In general for the majority destined to recover, they do so in a few weeks/months after quitting. For others it may take much longer, or only up to a certain point. Your own body determines how you will react to coming off the drug.

Read FAQ at top of site for starters. Get bloodwork per list therein:

There is a NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS section on this forum if you want to read more about such things.

Hey all. Im 23 and in good shape (73kgms at 6 foot) and eat a well balanced diet. I also smoke marijuana a few times a week. I drink alcohol maybe once a month in small amounts.

I quit Finasteride (proscar) about 1.5 months ago. I was on it for 4 years at quater pill a day (1.25gm i think).

Anyway i basically have all the side affects menchoned. Including…

Erectile dysfunction (i can manually masturbate and do so everyday).
Brain fog.
Plus i generally just havent felt myself in a long time.

Ok so i have a few questions to start of…

Is there a general timeline for how long side affects take to go away depending on how long one was on the drug?

Does age and health/lifestyle have an affect also on recovery time?

Im going to the doctor tomorrow for blood tests and alltho i have seen the list for all the recommended tests i can only afford the most important so if someone could tell me the top 5 to 10 in order that i should get done?

Is there a part on the forum where i can fill out some pre written questions to help me out in telling my story?

Also any tips that have helped a larger majority of the people here would be good.

Cheers and thanks for this website/forum…

Length of time on drug seems to have little correlation with side effects continuing or clearing up after quitting. Read FAQ at top of site: propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7

Unknown, but unlikely. Whatever drug does to cause ongoing problems goes far beyond diet and excercise activities of men. That’s not to say that changes to diet and excercise won’t be beneficial in helping to recover from the drug’s effects – running, weight training and eating a healthy diet (fruits, veggies, lean meats, omega 3s) with lots of sleep are your best bet.

Get bloodwork and go from there.

On my way,

I’m not sure how the medical system works in Australia, but in the US we have to go to our primary care Dr’s first. Have you been to the Dr yet?

It took a long period of time for me to see an Endocrinoligist in the US, 5 months actually. I would try to get an apt with your dr as soon as possible. If your medical system is anything like ours, it may take a while. Ultimately, you need to see an Endo dr. The problem with us guys is our hormones are messed up and most dr’s are not familiar with cases like ours.

See your Dr, try to get a blood test as soon as possible. I’m sure you don’t feel energetic like most of us as well, but get out and exercise anyway. Also, try to do some weight training as well. There are studies that this can increase Testosterone.

Stay positive, don’t give up the fight to get back to your former self. Also, try reading some of the Recovery stories. They can help educate you on possible ways to resolve your problem and keep you hopeful at the same time.
