MY TRH Stimulation Test Results

I am posting this in it’s own thread as I think it’s very significant. I believe I am the first person on this site to have this particular TRH Stimulation test done.

thyroid.about.com/od/gettestedan … rhtest.htm

I would say this confirms I have a Thyroid Problem. I have an apt with my endo Dr on Friday and will discuss treatment options. Other than the obvious treatments such desicccated thyroid are there any other options?

I believe my problem is most likely secondary in nature, being a result of Pituitary gland problems. Now, I imagine I’ll have to determine if that is the case.

Test Desc Reference Range
TSH 1.57 (.05-6.0 ulU/ml)
Total T4 6.3 (4.0-11.0 ug/dl)
Free T4 0.95 (0.750-1.54 ng/dl)
Total T3 0.83 (0.70-1.70 ng/ml)
Free T3 2.40 (2.0-4.9 pg/ml)

TSH Post (stimulation test) 14.98 High (.05-6.0)

It’s flagged on the test with the wording “abnormal” for this TSH result.

I also got a lot of other vitamin and blood test results, which I will add to my story when I have a chance.

This is the most critical and confirms what many of us have suspected is a source of at least some of our problems.

do u have symptoms of thyroid dysfunctions like very cold hands and feet, low body temp can not stand cold weather etc
I have these all. I will press my dr to dot the same.

sps

SP,

I had cold feet and hands all winter long. I would go to bed with layers of clothes on. I have not had that symptom since that weather warmed up. My doctor asked my if I had cold hands and feet, I explained that I didn’t have now in the warmer weather. He said that is normal to not experience it as much in the summer.

Also, I had a hard time finding anyone else would could do this this TRH stimulation test local to me. I actually drove to NY, to see that guy mentioned in the link I posted. He is a big advocate of this test. I can see why. I was misdiagosed by 4 other endo drs prior to seeing this guy.

wow that is a long way out of range

this means you are hypothyroid?

Also i saw a doc today the 4th one and he didnt write it off as depression. He put me through loads of blood test and refered me to endo.
He said fin destoys the viens in the cock…perhaps thyroid problem + viens destroyed in the dick = us

Is there any relation between the TRH stimulation test and the Reverse T3 test JN was recommending? If not are you also going to test Reverse T3?

Has anyone heard from JN recently by the way?

a high TSH level would confirm that the thyroid gland (not the pituitary gland) is responsible for the hypothyroidism.

Thanks, Bigmike I didn’t have a chance to go through research enough to determine this. I wanted to get the results up quickly for everyone else to see.

Joao,

I don’t a lot about the Reverse T3 test. I mentioned it to the doctor, but he relies on the TRH stimulation test. This doctor has done over 10,000 TRH tests, so clearly he knows better than I do the best way to determine if someone has a thyroid problem.

OK. I´m sure that’s right. The only reason I ask is that I have had the thyroid panel done and all the results seem to be within range including Reverse T3 but I still think there is something up with my thyroid. The test you did does not seem to be readily available in Brazil (surprisingly) but I will investigate further. Cheers

I guess that’s why he relies on this TRH test so heavily. The test is supposedly so sentative there is little chance it will miss a potential thyroid problem. That’s correct the test is not done by very many doctors even in the US.

Routine Blood Tests are Often Inaccurate
Routine Blood tests for thyroid function measure the amount of TSH, T4, and T3 in the bloodstream. But thyroid hormones don’t operate within the bloodstream; the action takes place in the cells themselves. Blood tests are measuring how much thyroid hormone is swimming around in the blood stream, but not what is in the cell. This is why the TRH test is so important.

NICE BOSTON!

I’m getting my results tomorrow with RT3…Can’t wait!!!

Thanks, Anonn1,

Every guy on this site should be going out getting these tests done. I also posted a link earlier that shows hypothyroidism is associated with low free testosterone levels in men. You can read the rest of it on my thread. Also, I spoke with a couple of guys on a thyroid disorder forum and they said they had low T and their T levels rose back up after they resolved their thyroid problem. Some hope, that many of these problems are tied together.
