my story

Yesterday I took my last propecia.

I started taking propecia about 1 month ago.

I had read of the side affects stated by Merck. Unfortunately I had not encountered this website and thus was prepared to believe that any side affects would subside after I go off the drug.

Within the first week I noticed that I was not able to sustain a full erection. In the past weeks I have noticed that my erection is not was it used to be. I need constant stimulation and I am unable to achieve the size of hardness I was capable of prior to starting the drug. I guess like many I attribute these side affects to of factors, stress, lack of sleep etc.

More recently however I have noticed that my conversation is lacking as I am often unable to find the words to finish sentences.

So last night while googling I came across this site, and literally broke down. As I read the stories from other users that had experienced similar side effects, and the long term issues they have suffered, I was in tears to say the least, to think of what now may be my fate. I feel like an idiot for not being prudent enough in my research beforehand.

I’m not sure how this story will end, but for the benefit of others out there I will keep you updated on my progress.

My stats are:

Aged 36
Weight 75kg
Height 182cm
Period of Propecia use 1month
No other prescription drugs used or medical conditions

Please read the FAQ’s. Also you need to wait a couple of weeks so that DHT can return. Most likel yyou will feel better by then.

Stop worrying. If you took it yesterday, you haven’t actually quit the drug yet, because it’s in your system. Wait a few weeks and you will get better, as the 5ar2 starts to work again and you get your DHT back.

jeremy,

congrats on quiting, but don’t panic or stress out too much. I think you are one of the lucky ones who found this site early in your use. I and many others took it for a number of years before stumbling onto this website.

Many men quit the drug and gradually return back to normal. That may be the case for you. You need to give some time, as you just quit.

Keep in mind that stressing yourself out over it is only going to cause more harm than good. Don’t beat yourself up over having taken the pill. That’s done now. Focus your energy on consuming some information from the recovery section of the website. Try to eat a very healthy diet, get lots of physical exercise including weight training; avoid alchol and excess of stimulants like coffee and sweets.

Good luck, bostonusa

Well, its been now more that 3 months since I stop taking Propecia, and as proclaimed by bostonusa2009, Fanjeera, mikey428, things appear to have returned to normal. In fact I started getting positive signs within 1 week of quitting.
Does that mean that Proprecia’s claim of a quick recovery after stopping is valid… perhaps, but I should add that after speaking to many specialists following my experience it is clear that there are very strong views against the use of Propecia by many in the medical industry. The general consensus seems to be, stay away from any drug that has potentially adverse effects on your hormonal system.
I wish the best of health and a quick recovery to all who are suffering long term effects from this drug. Whilst my story had a happy ending and thus does not compare to the stories of others in this forum, my short experience taught me a very valuable lesson. So please, think VERY STRONGLY before considering taking Propecia, get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinion but specialist you trust, and ask yourself, even if there is a 1/million chance that you could lose your libido… is it really worth the risk… just to have hair!
