After suffering for a year I tryed 2 things two heal myself but only made things worse.

I read a study that said creatine can improve testosterone so I started some. Terrible mistake. Up until then all my sides were sexual. That changed. I got severe insomnia, brain fog, couldn’t concentrate. Alcohol stopped working, I no longer would get any buzz from drinking or smoking. 1 glass of alcohol and 20 minutes later I would get a headache and feel hung over. In retrospect creatine puts a big strain on your system and your liver, stupid thing to try. I stopped the creatine and the brain fog went away but all the other physical sides have remained.

The 2nd mistake was trying the natural supplement maca. This one has been devastating to me. The bottom side of my penis became completely flat and sometimes its so flat its actually concave. The bottom side gets no blood and it bulges inward. My libido after this became so low I’m now fully impotent and completely numb. The depression that accompanied this is taking its toll on me. I have suicidal fantasies every day. I would be happy to even go back to where I was before the maca six months ago.

  1. Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.

My family Dr proscribed propecia to me 4 yrs ago. I took it for three weeks started getting side effects and immediately stopped taking it. I turned back to normal in two weeks time. My hair lose really bothered me I thought my body might get used to the propecia and I started taking it again a year later. After 3 months my hair was growing fully back but I was still getting the side effects. During a meditation I had this feeling that what I was doing was wrong for my body and stopped taking it. Again I fully recovered in 2 to 3 weeks. Then I made the biggest mistake of my life. That’s right I took it again 6 months later hopping my body would get over the side effects. This time I took it for 4 months when I finally got the idea to look online. I did a goggle search and my heart stopped when the first thing that came up was a site telling me the sides could be permanent. Even though I had already recovered twice for some reason I knew this wasn’t going to be the case this time. I felt sick.

After 2 weeks I again fully recovered. Except for one difference. The bottom half of the left side of my penis was thinner and was half the width. It was like the vain moved and it was indented just the bottom left half. I had my full libido back so I felt thankful. I had learned my lesson. And then it happened a month later I noticed I didn’t feel anything during sex. I maintained an erection I just didn’t feel anything pleasurable. That was two and a half yrs ago. Instead of getting betting Ive regressed over time.
Even though I have all the side effects of someone with low testosterone anything I do to increase testosterone makes me feel worse. Working out even a short walk instantly shrinks my junk and makes me feel like crap all day. Maca the natural supplement and creatine which should have helped to increase testosterone have both added to my permanent negative side effects.
I had an appointment with the Canadian dr that’s suggested on this website. I took the blood test and he said everything was in normal range. He prescribed me tamoxifen. That made the insomnia worse and I had to stop.

My fiance of 3 yrs broke up with me last week. This whole thing took its toll on us and she couldn’t go on. This has taken everything from me.
I’m at the end of my rope. After two years I’ve just gotten worse and I’m breaking down mentally. I can’t go on like this. I don’t know what o do. Any help or suggestions deeply appreciated.

Please post your blood tests in the blood test section. Having your results simply “in range” does not tell the story of your health as the ranges are not customized to your age group. See this link for recommended tests:

This is exactly why I recommend that everyone is careful about what they put into their body and that they research the potential negative effects before taking anything. Sorry you found the site so late. I think a lot of us feel that if the information would have been available to us we could have shunned this poison earlier and might not be in our current state. Hang in there.

Regarding advice, you should read the main site - propeciahelp.com - completely before beginning on the forum. The information has been summarized well.

Some things I and others on this forum have found that help improve long-term sides from finasteride are:

eating a paleo diet (a raw food diet and fasting have also been reported to give benefits to PFS sufferers)
eliminating sugars, caffeine, alcohol, and grain or grain-based foods such as bread and pasta
getting enough rest
not overdoing sexual activity or masturbation - maybe once every three days
moderate exercise (start very slow to prevent crushing fatigue)

L-Arganine has been reported to help with shrinkage but be sure to cycle it to prevent tolerance.
