Im 30 years old male from Asia.
i’d like to share my story because i feel like i really need to vent since i’ve kept this inside me for so long.
looking back, i think my hair loss began a short while after i turned 19(even though i didn’t know it at that time), i noticed that my hair just didn’t stay fresh(strong and firm after shower) for long. it became greasy and limp after like 10 mins…
i didn’t think much of it but soon it got worse. i began to find a pile of hair on my pillow in the morning and soon it became a daily routine.
well, my syptoms were receding hair line on both sides, thinning hair and greasy, unhealthy looking hair. i must say that hair loss had bad psychological effect on me.
fortunately, rapid balding process stopped at a certain point, receding hair lines have stopped expanding like crazy and only resumed at a real slow pace. hairs were still thinning and greasy but i was still able to keep enough that most people didn’t consider me bald. nontheless, i was deeply depressed.
i began wearing hats whenever i went out, began drinking frequently to avoid the realization that i could completely go bald and i lost much of self-respect and kept wondering why is this happening to me.
some of you might ask what the big deal is if i didn’t go completely bald but there’s enough cultural difference reasons for me to be deeply depressed. asian people place more value on looks than caucasians do and thus hair loss equals embarrassment. i am sure it happens in western countries to some extent.
anyway, i finally went to see a doctor and began taking proscar(it’s much cheaper than propecia).
well, the effects showed immediately, my hair regained some of its firmness back and stay fresh long enough for me to get rid of hats but the hair lost on sides never regrew more than baby hair.
so i’ve been taking proscar for 4 years and recently began using rogaine and i must say combination of both products are a lot better than just doing just one
it looks like i’ll never have back a full headed hair that i used to have but im content as long as i lose no more.
my questions to those who had hair loss problem in their 20s and who’s been on propecia ever since are 1. does propecia affect your sexual prowess? 2. does it have bad effects on your body overall becuase i am beginning to notice some bad signs.
i appreciate any kind advice and opinions
