What (if any) treatments have you undertaken to recover from your side effects since discontinuation of the drug?
I’ve taken prostate anti-inflamatory medication for about 1 week, wich relieved the urinating pain. -
If you have pre or post-Finasteride bloodtests, what hormonal changes have you encountered since discontinuing the drug (pls post your test results in the “Blood Tests” section and link to them in your post)?

Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.
Hello fellow users,
As most of you here at the forums I’ve also experienced problems while on this poison that we all took, most of us without knowing the side effects that this drug causes.
I’ve decided to tell my story here to give hope to many of you that are experiencing side effects, that most of times not only affect your body and your mind but also the people who are more close to you.
As this was about 3 years ago I cant provide much detail apart from what I remember, so I’ll try to give you the most detailed story as I remember.
I’ve always had some hair problems related to pseuriasys that also cause some hair loss to occur, so I’ve paid a visit to my dermathologist asking for advices for the hair loss i was experiencing. She started by saying that probably it was not only related to genetic hair loss but also to the pseuriasys and then she told me about this ‘new’ drug that would give me hair back and was 'almost safe as only 1% of the men taking it show some minor side effects… and you’re young".
Without any deep knowledge on finasteride effect, I went to the pharmacy to aquire this miracle of modern medicine (lol) that would return me my hair back.
I remember of taking it for about 2 weeks and then I’ve started to feel some pain while peeing, and the erections weren’t as hard as they used to be so I’ve decided to go cold turkey and stop medication. About 1 week after all that remained was the pee drops that sometimes I’ve felt they wouldnt come out… It was unconfortable but it was the only side effect that remained for a bit longer, all the rest came back to normal easily.
After a couple of months, I’ve started panicking again with the hair loss and I’ve come back to the medication and this time it went out pretty bad.
I’ve started to have emotional blunt, apart from all the other symptoms I had the first time, wich led me to dump my girlfriend at the time as I didnt feel in love with her anymore and after a couple of weeks I’ve started hitting on another girl with whom I got intimate of and we had sex a couple of times, and most of them my erection wasnt as hard as it should be or used to, and then there was a day when we were about to have sex and I just couldnt have an erection. That’s when I’ve drop the medication for good, but this time the side effects wouldnt go away as easily as they did the first time. Actualy it became a nightmare.
My erections wouldnt be as hard as they used to, I was emotionaly flat and wouldnt feel nothing for anyone, and I’ve decided to make some medication on multi-vitamin and afrodisiacs to see of it would improve… It didnt. And now that I come to think of it, the mental block that I’ve created around the erection problems caused most of the problems with it, because as soon as I started to relax and accept it wouldnt be better ever again, they started to improve and my sex life kind of came back to normal after 1 year, lets say it was about 70%.
Last year I’ve decided to join a gym to do weight lifting and I must say it was the best decision I’ve ever made, because it restored back my sexual activity back to close to 100%. With weight lifting I started to feel stronger, due to the increase of testosterone in my blood. I also changed my diet to a more proteín and healty based diet…
I’ve been injured in my back for a couple of months (doh, I was doing an exercise wrong eheh becareful with that.) but the funny part is that I even got harder erections without doing any kind of exercise…
So what I just wanted to say with this thread is that THERE IS HOPE. EVERYONE CAN DO IT.
And I also think that a big part of it, let us say 50%, of the side effects happen in our head, and of course the other 50% happens and we feel them in our bodies.
If I could give an advice to everyone it would be:
- Get yourself at a gym and exercise regularly, 4 times week, and challenge yourself while doing it.
- Take good care of your diet and get your mind straight, let go of the bad toughts and believe you will lose your head and will recover from all the side effects.
- Try to get your head away from the side effects, they will eventualy fade and you’ll have an happier life.
- Dont care about the hair loss and prevent your friends from taking this drug. Women are not like us, they love us for what we are not for what we have in the top of our heads.
