Labrea,
Donāt worry, we wonāt be discouragedā¦
There is a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to diet. If you just use common sense, most of the time you can cut through the BS. Many times though, we try and use our intellect when it comes to diet and it usually always leads us way off the correct path. This Iām afraid, is misinformation. If you ask you doctor what every single cell in your body runs on, he is going to say glucose, among other types of āoses.ā These are all sugar of course. That is what the human body is designed to run on, sugar. No matter what you eat, it is broken down into simple sugars. This is what ALL cells use to function.
I am very familiar with type of diet they offer there and while way better then SAD (Standard American Diet) it is not the best way to eat raw at all. This is like telling a cow not to eat grass, or a bird not to eat bugs. We have all been domesticated and like all domesticated animals we lose our natural ability to be able to discern which foods are right to consume. This is not so for wild creatures. No one tells them what to eat, they just know naturally. If you were a wild human living off the land I can guarantee you would gorge yourself on fruit given the chance and not worry about whether or not your blood sugar was high or your triglycerides or whatever else.
What causes blood sugar problems is not blood sugar! itās fat. Did you know you can cure type two diabetes? You know how? Eat as much fruit and vegetables as you care for while not eating ANY fat at all. In one month you will no longer have type II diabetes. Case closed. The high levels of fat coat everything like an oil slick making insulin useless. So the pancreas has to work overtime to pump out more insulin because the sugar is not getting into the cells. Over time this stresses the pancreas and you start to develop type II diabetes.
Donāt get me wrong, you need fats, but not as much as the typical American gets in their diet. You also need the right type of fats. Natural fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, coconut and certain oils. Even these eaten in too high amounts can interfere with the blood sugar dance. Remember, itās not the sugar, you need that to live. Itās the FAT.
If you really would like to take your knowledge of this to another level I suggest reading the 80/10/10 diet by Doug Graham. Also check out www.rawschool.com
What your doctors are missing by limiting fruit they are trying to make up for with supplements. While some supplements are good, namely the ones that can nudge our hormones in the right direction, the ones used for nutritional purposes just arenāt necessary if you are eating correctly. Getting your nutrients from food is the best way to get your nutrients. Not from a pill or potion. They fall short every time and may not even work.
Also, ask your doctor where you are getting your calories if you are severely limiting fruit. You can only get them from three places. Protein, Fat, and Carbs. Eating salads all day isnāt gong to give you enough energy to sustain yourself with. Leafy greens while necessary, do not give you enough calories to live on. You just couldnāt eat enough roughage, physically itās impossible. So, if youāre not getting your calories from carbs or protien, you are getting it from fat. This will not give you the outcome you want. They are also probably selling you all of these different supplements as well, correct?
Trust me, check out the two references Iāve given you as a starting point. And again, good luck.
