My life is ruined with only 3 doses of finasteride

Not sure why, but my digestion suddenly got worse. I’ll try intermittent fasting.

That said, I noticed an unusual change. After I took fin and crashed, my skin never turned red under the sun. I could sit for hours under midday on a sunny summer day and no redness.
The past few weeks, I’ve noticed that my skin turns red again even with just a few minutes under the sun. Im unsure what this implies, but I’m optimistic that my body is still heading towards full recovery.

Hope you’re all doing well.

Finasteride causes digestion issues and even destroyed my gut. Keep an eye on your vitamin levels and supplement if they are low.

Yes, my gut hasn’t been the same after finasteride. I’ve developed food intolerances from eggs and dairy (Probably).

My gut seemed like it was getting better until now when I’ve suddenly developed a mix of diarrhea and constipation.

After some trial and error, I’ve made these discoveries:

  • I’m having some allergic/digestive issues with coconut oil. I developed some painful gas and constipation the past few weeks and the only thing I changed with my diet was eating a few banana chips a day. I checked the ingredients list and noticed it contained coconut oil. I stopped the chips and my digestive discomfort went away. To confirm my suspicions, I bought a jar of coconut oil and ate a spoonful and I got trapped gas and constipation the next day.

  • My insomnia may be partially or mostly related to carbohydrates. Whenever I have sleeping issues, my heart rate goes up. I noticed this happening when I started my intermittent fasting regimen. I think my blood sugar dropped too low and caused my body to release tons of stress hormones. I’m keeping a closer tab on what I’m eating and making sure I eat a sufficient amount of carbs. My heart palpitation is gone and I sleep better now with more consistency. The connection between this realization and the above bullet point was that the coconut oil made me so bloated that I stopped eating. That’s when the palpitations and insomnia started again. I’ve always suspected there was a connection between my gut and all the weird problems I was having.

Overall, I think I’m starting to have a better understanding of my body. I hope if I can avoid stressors, my body can heal itself.

That is interesting when I first crashed I was also consuming a lot of coconut oil in my food too, it may have compounded the issue and made things a lot worse. I’m certainly not going to try using any ever again but I’m still curious as to if now I’d have the same effects you’re getting from it.

I believe that PFS manifests differently for all of us.

At first, I scoffed at the idea that the food we eat can affect our symptoms, but now I’m 100% convinced that for me certain foods trigger my digestive issues, which causes a cascading effect on the rest of my body.

The heart palpitations, insomnia, constipation, etc. are due to foods that I’m having great difficulty digesting. It’s pretty upsetting considering that I had an extremely strong stomach pre-fin. I never reacted negatively to any food before.

So far, these are the foods that give me problems:

  • Peanut butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Eggs
  • Yogurt

And for everyone it is radically different too which makes it so complex even outside of PFS I have a lot of sensitivities including MCS so it’s not surprising saw palmetto broke something’s back in my body. The last time I could say I had a strong enough stomach was somewhere in early high school and things got progressively worse from there. Peanut butter for me is actually one of the only nourishing foods I can eat for energy consistently with chia seeds. Those other foods you listed I have issues with myself too. Anything probiotic in my case seems to make everything far worse in general. I actually made the most progress with this condition by bombing my guts with herbal antibiotics and still drink cistus daily to this day.

It’s been a few months since I last posted. I’m still alive and playing around with food to get a better understanding of my digestive health.

Overall, I’m doing okay. I wrote last time that I had issues with peanut butter, but now it seems I can digest them much better than before. On the other hand, I realized I had problems with yogurt.

I’m still optimistic about my overall trajectory.
