My Blood Test Results

Hi guys. This is my first post on these forums, though I’ve been a reader for awhile now. I took Propecia for about a year and have been off for almost 3 years now. I’m 100% sure something is still wrong with me despite no one really believing me.

I went to an endocrinologist and had a bunch of blood tests done about a year ago, and everything he tested came up “normal.”

Recently had a blood test done for Total Testosterone and Free Testosterone and here are the results:

Total Testosterone:

377 ng/dl (250-1100)

% Free Testosterone:

2.86% (1.50-2.20)

Free Testosterone:

107.8 pg/mL (35.0-155.0)

These tests were taken at about 10:30 am.
I’m 23 years old, was always very athletic, healthy.

To me, 377 total testosterone seems really low despite the fact that it’s in the normal range. Also, I don’t understand the % free testosterone and why mine is out of the reference range.

Any thoughts? Suggestions for some other blood tests to help shed more light on this?

Thanks much.

This link from Mew shows some expected ranges:

Dapimpshiz,

Did you test for any other items with your endo dr? They have a recommended short list here, of these items:

Total Testosterone
Free Testosterone
Bioavailable Testosterone
Androstenedione
DHT
3alpha-diol G (Androstenediol glucuronide – (“Adiol-G” for short): metabolite of DHT, measures 5AR-II activity
Estradiol (E2)
LH
FSH
SHBG
Prolactin
TSH

The damage this drug casues effects far more than just Total and Free Testosterone.

377 is definitely not a normal Total T number. Your 23 years old you should be much closer to the top of the range. I’m in my upper thirties and my Total is 751.

Did your Dr tell you your normal and there is nothing wrong with you? I wasn’t sure if that’s what your saying or if you were making that statement because your Total T came within the range. A lot of us have had this problem with drs telling us there is nothing wrong with us.

If that’s the case you may need to look for a new endo dr that understands the problem we are experiencing or is willing to be open minded to what you have to say. I personally went through the same thing and switched dr’s immediately.

Also Are you currently taking any medications to help with your recovery?

We tested for a whole bunch of things. I’ll call tomorrow for a copy of the results so I can post them here.

Yeah, I figured 377 was low. Why do all my doctors tell me those numbers are normal, though?

I’d been to two urologists prior to this endocrinologist, both of whom saw my testosterone results at the time (345 ng/dl) and tried to tell me that there was nothing wrong with me. The endo was more understanding, however, and seemed to want to get to the bottom of it.

All the tests with my endo came up “normal” except for prolactin, which was 18 on a range of 1-17. So I took a low dose of dopamine for awhile to fix that. I didn’t feel any different though. So at that point we figured there’s not much else we can do if all the tests came up “normal”, so I stopped seeing him and just kind of hoped things would get better.

So here I am now 10 months later, feeling the same, seeking answers.

I’m not taking any medications as i’m really not sure what to take. I tried some saw palmetto for awhile and didn’t notice any improvements.

What time of day were your tests taken?

What drug did you take, for how long, and did you get bloodwork after to see what your prolactin level is since?

SP is a natural 5AR inhibitor, stay away from it.

Dude no joke ur story is Identicle to mine took it for one year and half off for three years and still feel like something isnt right… No ones beleives me $%^&#$

I’m tyring some natural T boosters, u should too I think according to ur numbers  I’m wondering what ur prolactin numbers are since taking that dopamine cause mine is in the upper limit soooooo wondering if urs was braught down permanetly or are they back up

B

The tests were taken at 7 am, first thing upon waking, empty stomach. The dopamine drug I took was called Bromocriptine. When retested after a couple of months, my prolactin was actually down below the range. I have not since had it tested, so I’m not sure where my prolactin is at currently.

I hear ya BJamin, it’s frustrating. Intuition tells you something’s up, but it’s hard to prove anything. Then you just get discouraged because no one believes you. Let me know how those natural T boosters work for you. I’ve been scared to try anything like that as I’m not sure what adverse effects might occur. Have you had any blood work done? How are your T levels?

I set up an appointment with that same endocrinologist for Tuesday, Oct. 6th. When I go, I’ll get a copy of all the blood work I had done and I’ll have it posted here that same day for ya’ll to analyze .

Also, since I am seeing the Dr. next week, what kinds of things should I say to him to make a case for 377 being a low T level? It’s within the normal range, so he’ll say it’s normal. I’m into lifting/bodybuilding and do a lot of heavy compound lifts, which should propel my T levels up, right? So given that fact, plus the fact that I’m young, 377 seems super low. Should I even mention that?

Idk, what do you think? I just don’t want another dry run… I want to be prepared.

Lastly, thanks for the responses. It’s reassuring to know that there are people out there who can relate and are willing to listen and help, so thank you.

What do you mean dry run? I have some real good questions for you , how long has it been since you had these results… weeks months?? I’m taking a natural supplement that in the end i will only take it for 20 days so im not too worried. I wanna know if u prolactin came up again … but u said it was below range and ur testosteron was 366? and what was ur free testosterone. My advice is to get a photocoy of all the tests done and post em here with ranges

BTW what sides are u expereincing ??

Hey guys. It has been awhile since I made this thread. I meant to post my results awhile ago, but never got around to it.

These results are from a blood test on 11/3/09:

Estradiol - 19 pg/ml (0-54)

FSH - 3.4 miu/ml (1.6-8.0)

LH - 2.6 miu/ml (1.5-9.3)

Prolactin - 10.7 ng/ml (2.1-17.7)

Total Testosterone - 483 ng/dl (250-1100)

Free Testosterone 98.0 pg/ml (35.0-155.0)

I understand there are some other tests that would help the analysis, but it was almost impossible to get my endocrinologist to write up an order for anything, as he was convinced that we’d covered everything relevant.

Any feedback is welcome.

Also, I have a couple of questions regarding treatment drugs:

I ordered some 20mg tablets of nolvadex and plan to try it for a 10 day trial period in an attempt to boost my LH, FSH, and Testosterone levels. What do you guys think? It seems like it is worth a shot to me. A lot of bodybuilders coming off roid cycles use it.

Lastly, what do you guys think of Provillus pills? Are they safe for me to take?

Your doctor is incompetent, find another one. He didn’t measure

3 adiol G, TSH, DHEA, or pregnolne…

HE DIDNT EVEN MEASURE TSH.

Find another doctor.

Please discuss hairloss treatments on hairloss sites.

No, Provillus is not recommended for post-Fin users – it contains a number of natural 5 alpha reductase inhibitors, including 1000mg of Saw Palmetto.

Alright, my bad on the provillus thing.

I’m really curious about this nolvadex though. Will trying it for 10 days hurt me? I’m 3.5 years removed from finasteride, so I don’t know if I qualify for PCT. I’m just looking for a little bit of a boost to my LH, FSH, and total Testosterone, as they’re all toward the low end of the ranges.

The nolvadex is on its way. It should be here within the next couple of days. I was deadset on doing a short cycle, but now I’m second guessing myself. I am sooo tempted to try it. What’s the worst that could happen?
