Merck - The evil of Big Pharma in America

Im just telling you what a prominent doctor told me whilst he was thinking out loud. Maybe I should visit my local shaman instead?

The fact doctors dont know about the sides, even ones who prescribe it on a daily basis, also says something of the rarity of the sides. The fact nobody is clear on the root cause is a different issue.

Following what Luckfax said earlier, there is one good way to tell the numbers of ‘lurkers’. Look at when new members have used Fin, you would expect ‘lurkers etc’ to have used Fin years ago. Most people joining only used fin/stopped in the last 1 yr.

This is a false assumption Oscar. The point of my previous posts is that there is a number of reasons why the side effects could be and probably are drastically underreported, and in older populations ignored.

This site is a strong collection point of sufferers, however there are multiple reasons why the total membership cannot measure the true number of overall side effects from finasteride.

No it isnt. Everything points to this being a rare condition (and in my own case, 4 or 5 other people with muscle loss). Studies, medical awareness, this website, the internet in general, everything. There is ZERO evidence on the contrary - although you can invent some theories if you like.

Did you know the old Yahoo group had a 1000 members? Did you also know this webite took YEARS to reach that number again - what happened to all those people? Did they even really have a problem?

I know there are random douches on hairloss forums dismissing this problem - Im not one of them. And Im not playing devils advocate either. Im trying to understand this problem better and not pretend something is happening when it isnt.

Do the maths.

Let you conveniently ignore the insufficient labeling on the drug and large number of people who come here and report not knowing or realizing the side effects immediately, both labeled and unlabeled, came as a result of finasteride use and you’re using membership on this website as the marker for “all evidence” - which clearly cannot be used to identify the total number of sufferers.

I dont think membership of this forum is “all evidence”. Not everyone speaks English for a start. But I have already explored reasons why it is a good guide and I dont want to go around in circles here. Nobody can actually prove anything.

Just out of interest what % of men do you think suffer permanent side effects? 50%? 25%? 10%? 1%? 0.5%?

Um why do you even care so much how many people have it? Do you just like to argue with people?

In the end it is safe to say at minimum that not everyone who has it, is on this website.

Not everyone on this website has it.

Several months ago Mew added a new lengthy disclaimer to joining the forum, so its possible to tell that about a third of people self-declare that they do not have permanant sides when joining up (and thats not including the bots). Who knows what went on before then. And yes, some people with hundreds of posts dont have anything wrong with them too. Dont believe everything you read on the internet.

Also as mentioned, only 91 men took part in Dr Irwigs study and only a small number are actually involved in any lawsuit. So, whilst an unknown number of people with PFS-problems may have registered on this forum, not everyone who has registered on this forum has PFS-problems. So the real number may be less than 2200!

Broken pecker your arguing with me! Seriously though, a better understanding of the numbers involved gives a better understanding of the problem.
