~*Meds, supplents to combat Depression, Anxiety, Brain Fog*~

So i’ve its been over month since I finally took the plunge to get off Finesteride. It was hard considering my Dr said that none of these symptoms could be from finesterde(even though all began after starting it and not from outside situations, or circumstances) I simply knew that long term sanity is a greater priority than a head of hair. Luckily i don’t have sexual side effects yet I would take it to get rid of the host of physiological symptoms i’m experiencing.

I am struggling with depression primarily feeling( or lack there of) very fatigued, apathetic, and these blunted emotions. Being in this numb state I feel like shell of my past self.
The brain fog i experience primarily feel is effecting my memory, focus, and over all processing speed are all diminished.
As for the anxiety , i believe i am seeing some windows reduction & hope it might be improving. Basically experiencing fewer days out of the week where that debilitating feeling of pain in my chest, short breath, racing mind, & some depersonalization are present. When the panic state lets up, the depression i experience becomes even more prevalent. Ugh ok, enough complaining, i’m here as a last hope to try and get some help , and to be able to help others with the solutions i find…
I am curious to find out what have been some of the most effective means you all have tried in combating any of these symptoms you might have in common? Medications, Supplements, Nootropics, Diets etc?

As for what I’ve tried
ANXIETY/ SLEEP-theanine, taurine , inositol, magnesium oratate & melatonin have all slightly helpfull for sleep. ( I’ve stayed away from supplements that directly effect Gaba-A out of fear of doing more damage) Considering a low supp dose of lithium.
DEPRESSION- ive tried 5htp, L-tyrosine w/ very little benifit, Sam-e started 7 days update w/ results, omega 3,
BRAIN FOG rhodiola rosea, bacopa, 1 weeks report with finding later .going to be starting folling on Mon. noopept, Resveratrol, Boron ( any thoughts?)
Also exercising 30 min 3 x week. I don’t get the same post work out endorphin pump i used too so probably going to try adding DL-phenylalanine in hopes of helping this. Its hard to exercise when you dont feel like it, even harder when you dont get the results from doing it that make you want to continue!

Has any one had experiences with the folowing?
I understand how finesterde messes with neurosteroids can you supplement them ? Such as taking Pregnenolone.
cetyl-l-carnitine, , l-theanine, taurine, curcumin, CoQ10?
Does any one know how minocycline might effect me post finesterdie. I can remember something about while being on it they interacted so I havent started it yet.

Thank you for your replies any help in this dark place, and long road ahead is greatly appreciated!!

Hey pushon,

I had to quit fin about 11 months ago because of brain fog. I had probably 40+ hrs in web searching on how to heal brain fog and I found nothing. I can tell you that it started to clear up, or at least be tolerable around 6 months off, and now at 11 months its completely gone.

I am still battling anxiety and depression but it has made a huge improvement in the last 6 months. I drink a green smoothie, take vit d, magnesium and mens one a day and exercise a few times a week (cardio). You might want to check out benzobuddies for more knowledge and support. I think benzo’s and fin both have an effect on gaba production. BTW I notice a direct correlation with caffeine and anxiety.

Hope that helps…pm me if you want to know anything else.

I dont know if you have depersonalisation, no emotions, zombie mod but if you have what do you suggest?

Hi Pushon,

Regarding your sleep supplements, they all look good, especially what you aren’t taking: more gaba agonists. I stick to that too.

  • L-Theanine is good. I couple this with Oxaloacetate which is said to lower glutamate levels in the brain. It’s also neuroprotective:

-Magnesium Threonate for sleep- this passes more readily into the brain and is neuroprotective:

Transdermal magnesium
via oil and bath salts has also helped.

-Phosphatidylserine is another crucial supplement I take because it has lowered my high cortisol levels. This has also lessened what I perceived were morning panic attacks but were huge cortisol surges waking me up. Lowering cortisol has really helped with sleep.

-I’ve cut all caffeine, even green tea and cocoa, which contain caffeine but are also harsh on the adrenal glands. Caffeine inhibits gaba production.

To battle brainfog and depression, here is my stack:

  • Megadoses of Krill and Calamari oil for the DHA content. High levels of omega 3 and DHA are said to stop brain shrinkage. It’s the phospholipids in krill that make it especially brilliant for the brain as phospholipids are a building blocks for it. I really notice a difference with this.
-MCT oil for ketone production (I also try to stick to a ketogenic diet for the neuro benefits- its said to produce more gaba and ward off neurodegeneration- google ‘Grain Brain’ and ‘Ketogenic diet and epilepsy’)
-Raw Turmeric root- this increases serotonin and also is incredibly neuroprotective- a quick google will bring up hundreds of sites. Don’t overlook this one. If you can’t get the raw root, buy the supplement by Longvida which offers the best absorption.
-Astaxanthin- a derivative of algae, this is a potent antioxidant that crosses into the brain.
-HTP- I tried this but I read it raises cortisol, which for me is a problem.

If you are going to experiment with an anti-depressant, Remeron was good for me and helped with promoting deeper sleep.

HTH.

I am now completely free from depression/anxiety. Altough the depression/anxiety was almost gone i took probiotic with lactobacillus casei (make sure it has this component: you can find it on the bottle). This was really helpful. I am currently struggling with a fatigue and i have sleeping disorders. About three months ago this would cause some depression and anxiety but that isn’t the case anymore. Maybe it resolved naturally but this happened right after using the mentioned probiotic.
