Low Basal NO/NOx Levels and Proposed Regimen

thanks for the suggestion, I’m going to look into that.

I started Rocket (Arugula) yesterday. Last night I had sexual dreams and woke up horny which is unusual. I should add that since I started the methylation protocol I have definitely felt hornier…this combined with the NO from Rocket may prove to be a very powerful stack. Thanks for sharing this information with us

UPDATE

I just received my blood test results which were as follows :

SGOT,AST 22 (5-38 U/L)
SGPT,ALT 17 (5-43 U/L)
CREATININE 1.3 (0-7 - 1,2 mg/dl)
CHOLESTEROL 249 mg/dl
HDL 57 mg/dl
LDL 164 mg/dl
Lp(a) 5.4 (<75 nmol/L)
IRON 115 (30-530 ng/ml)
FERRITIN 24.1 (30 - 490 ng/ml)
FOLIC ACID 32.3 (5.4 - 40 ng/ml)
B12 1181 (180-11-- pg.ml)
Hcy (Homocysteine) : 9.7 (5-15 μmol/L)
LH 5.3 (0.6 - 12 mIU/ml)
SHBG 31.5 (11.4-52.3 nmol/L)
Total Testosterone 7.2 (2.8 - 8.0)
Free Testosterone 18.3 (8.7 - 54.7)
25-OH(D) 50 (32-100 ng/ml)

So i have :

a) High Cholesterol. I intend going to a very strict diet to see if this will fall. I do eat cheese everyday but overall i do take it easy with eggs and other high cholesterol foods.
b) High creatinine which may suggest Renal dysfunction. This is not good. I am stopping Magnesium and Vitamin C which may alter creatinine levels. It is possible that Renal function is impaired because of many incidences of Orthostatic Intolerance. I hope i am wrong about this.
c) Normal Free and Total T without any intervention (HCG/Clomid) for more than a month. This is amazing news. This has not happened for more than 2 years and for as long as i remember myself i had T levels to the lower normal range.
d) Normal Liver function
e) Low Ferritin. This could be because of High Nitrates intake. So it is time to pull back on Nitrate ingestion by 50% as i am waiting for my NO test strips.
f) I would expect my D3 to be around 70 but it is 50. Note that i live in a very sunny country and that i recently was on holidays and spent a good amount of time under the sun.

Your results are very interesting and again thenvitamin d3 comes into scene.
I read in a 2014 study that once it reached 80 sleep was normalized.
Do you still have issues withbsleep?
I had total cholesterol of 218 and i lowered it to 190 with a few weeks of drinking 25g flax seed+ 25 gr hemp seed shakes everyday, cutting out sugar and exercising everyday.
I will recheck this soon.
Congrats on the testosterone! That’s good news!!

@xptriado
I do have some issues because i wake up between 5:15 and 5:30 from intense morning wood but the good thing is that i go back to sleep. I expect that this will get better once D3 reaches 70 to 80 ng/ml so whatever this study you described says, holds for me as well.

@BrongFogBoy
Great news, please let us know how you are doing.

Why do you have no methylcobalomine in your diet? Also, can we just eat the entire 150 grams of rocket at once? I usually research this stuff on my own but you seem like you know your stuff so I’m going for the easy answer.

I had a ton of rocket salad tonight’s, let’s see if this has any merrit whatsoever

There are two reasons : my B12 levels are above normal and also any Cobalamin (= any B12) is a NO scavenger with Hydroxocobalamin being the most potent. If you take Hydroxocobalamin and start not feeling well then that means that NO has been scavenged too much.Perhaps the best thing to do is not to drop Cobalamin entirely but to have a much lower dose (say 1/4 tablet). I mean, the tablets we are taking give us 1600% more than the RDA.

You must split the dose every 8 hours so that you have a steady supply of NO/NOx. Probably 50gr of Rocket 3 times a day is too much and i say that because nitrates caused my Ferritin levels to go low. I’d suggest experimentation with this and probably the best thing would be to start with 50gr of Lettuce every 8 hours, instead of rocket. If you can have access to NO test strips, use them and see your NO levels and adjust accordingly.

It will take more than one day for you to see results FinaTruth. Expect to see something after at least 10 days on the regimen.

Guys,

FYI i am experimenting with from what it seems to be a miracle compound called Pycnogenol. Pycnogenol has the following properties :

-Raises Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS)
-Regulates inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase ( iNOS)
-Protects from NMDA excitotoxicity
-Protects Dopaminergic neurons
-Improves GSH/GSSG ratio
-Helps to achieve better endothelium function

I decided to experiment with this compound because it appears to be a good alternative to eating Nitrate-rich foods (although it acts on the L-Arginine pathway) but also because of its beneficial effect in NMDA exitotoxicity and Dopaminergic neuron protection.

As previously discussed i have to lower the intake of Nitrates because of low Ferritin levels so now i am down to eating a total of 60gr of Rocket per day instead of 150gr

WIll let you know more once i have more concrete results.

This protocol is able to reach a cure or we need to be on it? Mario do you think if you stop doing it you will get a huge step back?

My opinion on this is that NO kills candida and pathogens because they live in a anaerobic enviroment and prevent the body to convert to NO. So maybe the addition of candida protocol with enemas, s boulardii, bifidobacterium (note that chi took it) could be the thing that is missing to be clear once and for all from this.

I did not say that it is a cure yet. All i said is that i noticed that through NO/NOx protocol the vicious cycle that i felt i was in, has been stopped and i was getting coherent results. I am sure that if i stop i will return where i was. This has happened numerous times because of the experimentation with dosing. Usually numbness at extremities was the first symptom to return, then a drop on erection quality.

UPDATE :

I continue to have great erections with some side effects coming back. A new addition to the side effects are Panic Attacks which occurred two days ago. Recall that i stopped the following supplements :

Magnesium, C, Methylcobalamin and also ALCAR and CoQ10.

I also lowered nitrate intake.

I will start adding again ALCAR (at a lower dose than before - 500 mg) and CoQ10 although i believe the culprit for Panic Attacks is the cessation of Magnesium supplementation.

Yesterday i had a prolonged Panic Attack which resulted to Tinnitus. However this has not affected me in any way and today i woke up with great morning wood as always. My neurological side effects (which came back but i barely felt them) disappeared with D3 supplementation. I cannot stress the importance of having adequate D3 blood levels especially if you have a confirmed VDR Receptor Mutation (i know i have).

Meanwhile for those who are following the regimen, Can you post an update?

My experience so far has been that this makes erections easier which makes sense because it’s boosting nitric oxide levels…I’ve also noticed increased libido after I eat the rocket but I need more time to see if that’s placebo, the Rocket, or something else. So far I like this because I already eat a lot of greens and so this is a nice addition which brings on side effects that are more beneficial than say, Kale.

I also can’t for sure give all the credit to the Rocket, I felt stronger libido and better erections with the methylation protocol, but this does seem to enhance it even further, it’s too early for me to say for sure now but so far thumbs up

So It appears that you are doing even better with the NO/NOx regimen which is great. I would like to add some thoughts :

-You are the first person that i know who had a significant positive effect in erections after following the methylation protocol. I assume that you tried the methylation protocol long enough to see that its positive effects are not declining with time. Perhaps you are a “simple case” of PFS whereas others have experienced more significant damage.

-Keep in mind that the advocates of Methylation protocol (=Dr Pall, late Rich Konynenburg) believe that excess NO is the culprit. There is still not even one that tried the NO/NOx protocol who had a negative experience. We will see if this continues to hold.

-One thing you could try : Stop the NO/NOx protocol at some point and see whether you feel significantly worse.

I wanted to mention that I kept up with the daily 200 grams of spinach, which I sometimes replace with radishes. Since I’m doing intermittent fasting with a 4-window right now I’m not eating it throughout the day, so I’m not complying entirely with the regimen, but I do feel better immediately when I’m eating it, so I have no doubt it helps somehow.

I’m falling off the wagon on this one, I need to try something else that I can fit in more easily with my lifestyle. I know that I won’t keep up eating 50 grams + of arugula every day but could use it as a libido booster when needed. Has anyone tried beet root pills?

i am sure we have some problem with NO, but what will happen if we will stop the food and supplaments?

It might be possible that after some time our body will be able to produce NO/NOx through improved endothelium function. I doubt we can stop supplements related to improved Methylation

well all the people who recovered from pfs, are no longer taking anything

I see you point. On the other hand each one has individual problems which have to be addressed for life. For example, I have a confirmed homogeneous MTHFR mutation and if I don’t deal with it my homocystein will rise. The same I believe that I should do about my VDR mutation by taking D3.

This is great news Mario, it must be an amazing feeling, it’s like a second chance at life, God willing.

I’m not sure how everyone is getting on lately with their NOX regimen but as I noted on here I did not feel any improvements first time around (with no methylation protocol). I have now started the meythlation protocol, I am taking the following:

AM
Acetyl-L Carnitine 750mg
Selenium 200mcg
TMG 1000mg
P-5-P 50mg

Folate 800mcg 3 times per day after food

I was listening to Chris Kresser’s recording and he mentioned that the methylation protocol takes about 5 weeks to work. After about 6 weeks I will re-try the NOX regimen and see if I notice any improvements.

If you listen from 24 mins onwards you will hear the discussion about methylation.

One observation I’ve made is when I drink 1 bottle of larger I feel more relaxed the next day and my anxiety has gone. When I drink a glass of red wine I don’t feel the same effects the next day.

I’ve noticed recently that my muscle spasms are less frequent since I completed my 3 day fast. I also noticed that after fasting I didn’t fall asleep in the day. The sleepiness has returned but I intend to fast again in another 6 weeks this time with juice and possibly for longer than 3 days.

UPDATE

I had a second blood test for creatinine and Total cholesterol levels. Creatinine is within normal levels now (Thank God) although at high-normal levels. Note that i stopped taking Vitamin C and Magnesium which increase creatinine levels. My Cholesterol is 265.

I do understand that keeping up with the regimen of having Salad every 8 hours is problematic. So i currently try to increase NO/NOx levels with Glycine Propionyl L-Carnitine from NOW Foods (also contains CoQ10) without the use of Rocket Salad.

I had to drop TMG from my regimen because i have to lower my total Cholesterol levels (it appears that TMG raises Cholesterol) and also i am on a very strict diet. I had no negative effects from doing so which means that TMG is off the picture for good.

I am trying to understand why NO/NOx levels are low and the reason could be -once again- increased oxidative stress. I changed my regimen as follows (remember i want to limit my supplement intake to a bare minimum) :

Morning : Metafolin 800mcg, Selenium 100mcg, CoQ10 100 mg, Ashwagandha 450 mg

11 AM : Pycnogenol 100 mg

Lunch : GPLC Glucocarn from NOW Foods (Contains Propionyl-L-Carnitine 1000 mg+Glycine 348 mg+CoQ10 60 mg), CoQ10 100 mg

23:00 : Pycnogenol 100 mg

1-2 days during the week i take Methylcobalamin and P5P in the morning but not daily.

Please Note :

  1. The use of GPLC Glucocarn and Pycnogenol with the aim of having increased NO/NOx Production
  2. The use of a rather large dose of CoQ10 - 260 mg (also keep in mind that CoQ10 may cause insomnia if taken later in the day). I think that CoQ10 is of great importance for us, but i will have to wait more to be certain about this.
  3. I completely stopped Rocket consumption

Everything is still great, no erection problems and the last time i ate Rocket was one week ago. Of course it may well be that my NO/NOx levels are still high. If OTOH i continue not to be affected by weather changes and be tinnitus-free then all goes according to plan.
