Lots of Research New Approach

I’ve told my story on here before so I’ll keep it brief.

I was on a small dose of propecia for only three weeks and while most of my sexual sides returned to normal within a few weeks all of my other mental and physical problems have gotten worse over the past 9 months or so.

I think I may be able to offer a different perspective on the whole issue because I’ve been researching into why exactly this has been happening to me and all. I’ve come across the fact that most likely those of us on here suffer from adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism.

I’ve also realized along my journey that many of us may not really be sleeping through all of this. If our bodies are not properly shutting down and sleeping at night then it expalins a lot of the mental dullness, chronic fatigue, physical weight gain etc, and may even explain the sexual sides guys are dealing with on here.

I think it may be advisable at least for my situation to look at things from a different angle and not try to look at testosterone or other sexul hormones at all right now.

This is because if there is an adrenal problem that needs to be dealt with first, otherwise using various sexual hormones would be useless. My main question to those of you out there is how many post fin users on here suffer from poor sleep?

I know I do and this all seems to be related to an adrenal defeciency, adrenal fatigue etc. My insomnia is also terrible post fin. My main view is in terms of fixing all of our problems is that the more I think about it it may not be hopeless after all.

I think if we can fix the problem where we are getting good refreshing sleep that may be underlying factor of all of this. I am going to a sleep specialist tomorrow with the hopes of having a sleep study done and figuring something out.

I’m done with the hormones for now, I feel all of my problems started a few days into fin when my sleep got bad, and now the more i think about it they’re all going to end with my sleep.

Others have speculated on the sleep connection:

Also, I don’t doubt that in some cases Finasteride could likely induce secondary issues such as hypothyroidism, diabetes or other issues such as adrenal fatigue via its impact on the endocrine system/throwing things out of whack.

However, be aware there are men whose hormones are in tip-top shape, yet are still suffering despite any secondary diagnoses. If everyone had hypothyroidism, this would be an easy problem to solve, unfortunately this is not the case. Clearly, there is something more going on here… I’m not trying to be negative or dash your hopes at all, I’m just saying this isn’t a “one size fits all” situation…

I agree that there is probably something more going on here, but let me try to explain what i feel could be the situation. Propecia basically is a drug that affects male sex hormones DHT etc but also effects cortisol, epiniepherene etc. DHT is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands so I don’t doubt that that the drug messes with cortisol etc etc. Basically, we have a drug that screws with our sex hormones and our adrenal hormones at the same time hence the lack of libido and sexual ed issues. Now in some men when they quit propecia they soon realize that their symptoms dont fully reverse themselves and here is what my theory is on why this all occurs. If your sex hormones are screwed around with along with your adrenal hormones then in terms of testosterone issues etc nothing will be fixed until the adrenals are back and fully functioning. Cortisol is a vital hormone that delivers thyroid, DHT, etc other hormones into cells. Thats why I feel many men on here who have normal T ranges are still struggling because if the adrenals are compromised T and DHT cant get delivered to the various cells allowing for recovery. That’s why man hypothyroid patients can’t do anything about their thyroid conditon until they take care of the adrenal issues at hand first. Guys simply injecting testosterone with compromised adrenal function will likely see little benefit from it all and it could just place more strain on the adrenals. The endocrine system is basically a three level pyramid the very top is the sex hormones, the middle is your thyroid hormones, and the bottom foundation is your adrenal hormones. You can’t go on to addressing the top without the bottom first.

Now when it comes to normal ranges in test results i doubt many guys on here have their previous baseline cortisol and adrenal function tested before fin use so it’s tough to say what is a normal range for someone after useage. Also symptoms far outweigh any test results as a small drop in any hormone level can cause major side effects in some people. For instance many of the tests Drs do such as the TSH and Free T3 and T4 for thyroid function arent accurate.

Now when it comes to sleep I really think it is the major key in all of this. I think it might be best to forget about Testosterone and DHT for awhile because they seem for many to be in the normal ranges and focus on adrenal function first. If we can correct the adrenal problem it will allow for recovery. The whole approach of addressing the adrenals seems to make sense because when looking at people with adrenal issues it isnt something that just goes away overnight, these people deal with the issue for years and years tyring to recover hence why there are guys like us out there with long term affects. I’ve gotten a 24 hour saliva test done and I’ve had a few hormone profiles done as well. All of my hormones seem to however I still have many mental and physical sides from the stuff. The one area where Im suffering the most is sleep. I just think with proper rest and healing of the adenals it will lead to recovery. I’m curious to see how many guys on here have sleeping issues though because my sleep has gotten worse and worse as all this has gone on. I used to sleep like a log at night not anymore. I just think that is the key to all of this.
