I have always had blonde hair, but when I was 16-19 (before Fin), I had very dark blonde hair. My leg hair was dark and coarse, as well as my eyebrow hair. After taking Finasteride, I noticed that all of my hair rapidly became significantly lighter, especially my eyebrows and facial hair. It’s been three years since off Fin now and I have not seen much of a change. My hair is not getting darker. It has not reverted back to pre-Fin color.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone else noticed this symptom?
  2. Does anyone know the specific biological reason why this occured?
  3. Has anyone here noticed a recovery in hair color if they have experienced this symptom?
  4. If you have experienced a recovery from this symptom, was it from some kind of hormonal treatment or did it just revert back to normal in time?

I know this symptom is not as serious as other symptoms, but I was just curious since I feel the lighter hair makes me appear older than my years.

Yes, DHT controls the color of hair, less DHT means lighter hair, fin slowed DHT production. Many notice this finasteride effect. Some people have noticed differences in color/growth, you have to search the forum for these threads.

I have the exact same problem except the hairs whiten unevenly on the body. I used to trim leg hair and now it’s not noticeable.

Obvious possible remedies are testosterone/DHT related, none with confirmed success rates, and none should be taken with the sole purpose of darkening the hair because they have much greater effects.

However since the hair effects are so pronounced in you they might be worth it from an overall health standpoint, maybe you’re test is way too low and boosting it would help.

That’s the thing. I don’t think my testosterone is very low. Since stopping Fin three years ago, I have noticed an increase in facial hair (since my beard wasn’t fully developed when I started Fin), but the hair is lighter than the hair that grew pre-Fin. Also, I feel like I have the same amount of eyebrow hair as I did pre-Fin, but its just lighter. Furthermore, since stopping Fin, my arm and leg hair has been growing back and it has been getting darker. I’ve also been growing more hair on my stomach and chest.

Strangely though, my eyebrows and facial hair are still a bleached blonde, albino white, which contrasts my pre-Fin dark blonde hair color.

Regardless, DHT controls the color, and since fin prohibited DHT you have your culprit. It just depends on what tissues/follicles are most susceptible.

I have this too. Much more white/light hair since crashing. I thought this was stress related at first.
