Kind of in a dilemma here with finasteride

I started propecia as I started losing my hair around 15 or 16 to MPB. I am 21 now and it is still moving at snails speed although it sped up some this year (hair thinning out even more) due to heavy stress/physical stress I experienced. Anyway I am getting close to my second month on propecia and here is my dilemma.

As far as side effects with depression/libido, I have been having trouble with that before I started Propecia as my depression has crippled my sex drive all together but I have found myself slowly getting out of the depression and actually popping a few more recently. Now the thing that concerns me is I have noticed that when users first start using Propecia it says it causes a moderate increase in testosterone. Now granted I have wanted a fuller beard, I have gotten my wish as more facial hair as come in with Propecia. Yet along with that is not a massive increase but my body hair become more defined except for pubic hair near my crotch which has thinned out significantly. Along with that I have had a massive increase in bacane (back acne) and pimples on the face.

Am I experiencing hypoandrogenicity? More importantly should I quit? At the same time I want to save my hair as much as I humanely can. At the same time I have not completley but defientley lost parts of my baseline since starting and have thinned a little more in the temples and my forelock which was still touching my juvenile hairline, I am now reaching an NW2 when I was closer to an NW1.5. Yet at the same time the shedding and the acne is a price I am easily willing to pay if I want to save my hair. Still could an increase of body hair also mean my MPB is becoming more agressive? My hair has been shedding more but I do not think it is thinning out anymore than it has in fact it feels a little thicker since starting.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Nobody really cares about hair here anymore, since this forum is for guys that already QUIT the drug.

  2. You are asking us if you should quit – of course we’ll tell you to, based on all the negative research listed in the Finasteride Studies section about this drug and what it does… plus our own bad experiences with it, with side effects continuing after quitting.

  3. Regarding hyperandrogenecity, some guys have reported this AFTER quitting:

Only you can decide wether you want to continue. Honestly, this is not a forum dedicated to discussing wether people “should quit”, because we suffered side effects from the drug, quit, and they still remain. My personal advice is if you are having troubles from the medication, get off it and look for alternative solutions to keep your hair, as discussed on various hairloss sites.

Good luck.
