Kennth Frazier in Associated Press interview...

Kenneth C. Frazier in a new Associated Press interview:

Note his response to the question about Merck trying to develop a drug to slow Alzheimer’s:

“When people question me (and ask) ‘Aren’t you putting a lot of money at risk for something that’s hard?’ I say, ‘Isn’t that exactly what the world wants a company like Merck to do?’”

No, Kenneth, that is NOT what the world wants you do to. The world wants you to:

–Be a real man and own up to the fact that Vioxx killed tens of thousands of people who put their health in Merck’s hands. And apologize to the hundreds of thousands of friends and loved ones of those victims, rather than playing the victim yourself.

–Admit that Propecia is a very dangerous drug that has ruined the lives of tens of thousands of men the world over. That, instead of counseling your minions to persist in insisting that the drug is “safe for its intended use.”

–Recall Propecia from the market immediately and – taking a cue from your buddies at Exxon (on whose board you sit) – take responsibility for the damage the drug has done by trying to (for once in your life) HELP those whose lives it has destroyed.

–Keep your sob stories about your dead mommy and daddy to yourself.

–Stay the hell out of the White House, even if Barack Obama is stupid enough to invite you there. The last thing America needs is advice of any kind from a soulless, cowardly, money-grubbing CEO.

–And last but not least, never assume that any halfway intelligent person believes Merck lives by it “Be Well” slogan. “Be Rich at Any Cost,” yes–you’ve done an excellent job of that. But wellness is not even in your lexicon. And from the looks of how you’re running your business, it never will be.

I read this article the other day and it made me fucking sick.

I hate this man more than any words can ever describe.

He will get what is coming to him, I am certain of it.

If there is a God, this man will burn in hell for all eternity.

I personally don’t believe in god and his money and the current system will probably insulate him from any real justice. Truth be told this is a twisted f*cked up world where men like him who are without any reedeming goodness are the ones holding positions of power and authority and it is those that have done nothing but suffered at his hands that have to carry the burden of both the consequences of having taken his profit pills and subsequent fight, where glaring truth and obvious causality seems of little consequence when faced with such corrupt power. His masquerade of “wellness” is indeed sickening. Obviously we have to fight within the current system but beyond the Kenneth Fraziers of this world what is needed is an overhaul of the drug industry through government legislation, ensuring that testing of new drugs must be transparent with a requirement for all findings to be published, possibly independent testing with no business interest in the drug being tested, and a much more rigorous and longer trial periods, including post trial monitoring and consideration of long term use of a drug. All this is ideally how it should be, but with greed and power of corporations and their control of governments, this wont be happening any time soon. Until this changes, thousands more will continue to suffer at Ken and his friends hands.

Well put, my friend.

Let’s hope we someday see a system exactly as you described.

damn miserable.

And note the passage:

“A bigger question is whether Frazier can face up to being wrong. Many of Merck’s experimental projects–such as another good cholesterol drug and a pill against Alzheimer’s, the disease that killed Frazier’s father–are in the absolute toughest areas in pharma. With Vioxx and Vytorin, skeptics felt Merck refused to engage with them, to its detriment.”
