Should I just not get any refills, and therefore not get started? I’m 33, hairloss in both sides of my family, although I have a really thick head of hair with some mild thinning on top that i’ve just noticed. I figured I’d go with the rogaine/propecia/nizoral shampoo so as to delay losing my hair as long as possible. Is this site saying that basically EVERYBODY is getting these terrible side effects, I have two friends around the same age as me that have been using it for a few years and they claim the only sides they experienced were the sexual ones, and that the sides went away after about a month. Reading all the horror stories here, makes it seem like everybody taking it is getting gyno, prostate cancer, etc, etc.
No, we are a small minority of men who took the drug, experienced some side effects while on it, only to come off and have a brief recovery to our Pre-Finasteride state, only to find side effects returned in full force if not worse a few weeks/month after quitting… often due to Testosterone levels crashing, amongst other hormonal imbalances.
Suggest you read FAQ at top of site. You may or may not experience problems, most guys don’t, and return to normal after quitting. For those that continue to have issues post-Finasteride, that is what this site is about.
Your decision.
my input:
i took ot for 6 weeks, thought i’d quit due to side effects.
Made a recovery, felt normal, tried it for another 6 weeks. Sides came back… quit after 6 weeks or so… made a brief recovery…
i haven’t touched the stuff in about a year… if i could go back and talk to myself 18 months ago - i’d be much happier now. I dont think i have it as bad as some of the men here… but i’m by no means in the same condition as i was 18 months ago.
i wouldn’t recommend taking the chance.
Ok, thanks for the info guys. I think I’m just gonna quit the stuff altogether, since I haven’t even been on it a week yet.
wise choice.
dont decide later that you’re still traumatised about losing yuor hair…
believe me - the prospect of being impotent for the rest of my life is a lot more traumatic
xpac - I took 16 pills and quit. It was 3 moths ago and I still have side-effects. I would pay many $$$$ to ‘pull out’ each pill from my body and reverse the inflicted damage.
I always thought that balding is really bad experience for men.
Now I don’t care about hair. It is nothing compared to our problems.
Thank you for attention.
Again, thanks everybody for being so candid. I had my doubts about this stuff (having studied biochemistry in college), but there seems to be a lot of users on various hairloss forums that love recommending this stuff. And it was amazingly easy to get my Dr to prescribe for me, he didn’t even question it or attempt to discern my current level of hairloss - of course he’s not a dermatologist or endocrinologist.
Hey guys… “newbie” here… not really sure I belong on this forum as I haven’t experienced any sides from finasteride… like xpac, I’ve only been on the stuff a short time.
When I discussed MPB with my dermatologist last year, he suggested Rogaine or Propecia and offered free samples of each. Initially, I went with the Rogaine (…and still am w/modest results). Just recently… despite the insane cost… and “small” risk of sexual sides… I decided to add Propecia… figured I’d get my inside/outside baldness attack on.
I debated on the Propecia decision for a long time… because of the above mentioned cost… but also because the idea of altering my testosterone levels over the long term just made me feel uneasy.
Found this site…
I’m gonna hold off dosing for awhile.
Longhair I would suggest holding off for good, take it from me, you don’t want to gamble with your sexual health, I would practically give one of my limbs to replace the one that gives me the greatest pleasure, don’t do it.
