Just quit--what can I expect

I’ve been taking finasteride (5mg tabs cut into quarters) for about 6 years now. I’ve been lucky and haven’t had side effects. I’m quitting now based on the new studies. My question is, can I possibly start to show side effects AFTER quitting taking the drug?

Thanks all.

First, realize that we are in the minority of men who took the drug and got side effects that did not resolve upon discontinuation. The fact that you are not experiencing any issues while on the drug is encouraging.

However, it is only after quitting (ie weeks/month) that you will know for sure if you are out of the woods, as that is when most men here affected by this issue tend to find it occurs – ie, after 5AR2 enzyme (supposedly) comes back online 10-14 days after stopping, and DHT returns to the body etc.

Before quitting I would get bloodwork as listed here: propeciahelp.com/symptoms . This is only a precautionary measure, it is not a for sure thing anything will occur, but will at least provide you a snapshot of what the drug was doing to your body at the time of use vs. after quitting, if need be when dealing with medical professionals.

Again however, we are in the minority and the fact you aren’t having issues should be taken as a good sign. Most likely you will be just fine. I would not obsess or fret about this, in fact I would get bloodwork and avoid this forum over next few weeks. Hopefully your body will find its natural hormonal balance after quitting without issues.

Thank you very much for that informed and thoughtful reply. I feel much better knowing what to do.
