First, I should state that I come from a long line of physicians, and am not easily swayed by data that doesn’t result from an extended study. Nonetheless, I am here to tell you that my experience with Propecia was brief and horrifying.
I took a very small dose (half a 1mg tablet, or .5mg) of Propecia for only two nights. The first night, I felt as if someone had decided to camp out in my scrotum and stir my testicles with a stick. It was very painful, and there was strange activity in the region all night. I also started to develop an odd tenderness in my left pec (I am extremely fit and have no signs of pre-existing disposition towards gynomastia).
The second night, the pain in my testicles became more severe, and a hard lump started forming under my left nipple. At that point, I immediately stopped taking Propecia, and thankfully two days wasn’t long enough to cause any permanent damage.
My father also tried Propecia for about a month, and he suffered from mild depression while taking the drug (which is definitely not his personality). He also just felt low on power, and decided that being bald was definitely preferable to feeling life half a man.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my story. Propecia may stave off hair loss, but at a potentially terrible cost. Don’t mess with your DHT levels. The proper hormone balance in the body is critically important for a whole host of reasons. If you’re considering taking Propecia, I advise you to hold off. It’s not worth it.
