He’s absolutely right. It was dumb of me to think I could suppress any of my hormones without disastrous consequences. Why would the body have a particular hormone if it wasn’t important in some way? I suppose my anxiety got the better of me, and I heard what I wanted to hear. However, it should be the doctor’s duty to help you make an informed decision. Nobody can be expected to make the right choice when they’re blinded by their emotions like that. Live and learn, I guess.
Fundamentally it should never have been approved for cosmetic reasons. The ordinary guy on the street has had to learn the hard way i.e. Learn about corporate greed and corruption & governmental complicity. Of course we assumed that everything was above board and properly tested, approved by the FDA etc, endorsed by the medical profession. We shouldn’t be the ones to pick up the pieces. Our assumptions should have been right. Now we know that we cannot trust big pharma. As I said, this should have been shut down before it even started, but with Merck holding all the cards with regards to what it presents to the FDA etc, and also factoring in collateral damage in the form of us and law suits, the nearest they’ll see of justice is a few mill off their billions. A root and branch overhaul of the industry is needed where there are real consequences for malpractice i.e. Jail terms and fines that are greater than any profits made by propecia. Their quick buck approach to “health” (short term tests etc) has cost them nothing but profit, but as well as effecting the lives of the men effected I could also argue that there has been an economic cost in lost wages, a drain on the health service, welfare etc. Or is this just part of the merry go round of capitalism?

It’s sickening to see just how loyal the FDA is to Merck. Did you read the FDA updated Propecia labeling? They made sure to use ALL CAPS to emphasize their point that “a causal relationship has NOT been established.” ALL CAPS to get the point across is usually reserved for conspiracy theory blogs. Very bizarre for government agency to do it when communicating to the public.

JR just earned his black belt in Ju Jitsu a few months ago. He trains his ass off well into his mid forties along with about 10 different jobs/ventures he is in. I doubt he has PFS. And if he did he would be the first person to speak up about it. I have listened to around 100 of his podcasts and never once have I heard a single sentence from him that would lead me to believe he has PFS.
In fact he is on HRT and responds very well to it. I highly doubt any of us PFSers are half as muscular as he is at this point.
Why is he on HRT?
He said his mother has always had thyroid issues and he has them too. Pretty sure he is on HGH, Test Cream, and Thyroid meds and from what he has said everyone over 30 who has some sort of money is on HRT.
Cap - I go through the same mental self flagellation almost daily - how could I be so stupid to take something that would mess with my natural hormone levels and NOT expect consequences. However - I realize that many drugs effect hormones without permanent side effects - I mean birth control is even more drastic in the process it stops. Making a baby>losing hair IMO, but it doesn’t leave women with permanent side effects. This is just a very unfortunate quirk - and while it sucks for us now, I do believe that the science behind PFS will be VERY useful going forward. Understanding how this works - and understanding will come in time - could lead to all kinds of other novel uses for conditions other than PFS.
Sir ! you are very wrong. Many women have got serious side effects for birth control pills. It has the same fake progestrone which Mirena IUD has.
This happened because you were likely instructed by a doctor or doctors that the drug was safe. With years up to eight years of specialized medical education plus additional years of work experience, it would have been quite audacious for you to think you knew better than any individual doctor. Few people are interested in the health care system unless it is directly relevant to them, so you would not have known how the system works. It is not common knowledge how pharmaceutical companies market their drugs and educate doctors to advance the number of prescriptions they write. For whatever reason, many doctors project certainty and confidence when they discuss medical issues even when the underlying biology is so complex that nobody fully understands. In this particular case, Merck clearly had evidence of the increased risks (European product labels) and avoided making it public (US product labels) and manipulated the system while putting innocent patients at risk. But this is not your fault and you should never think like that.
I wonder if HRT is not the answer. I have mentioned before undeveloped a rare condition called mal de debarquement 5 years ago while I was on fin. I basically got off a cruise ship and felt the rocking of the boat for about 2 years, it was horrible. Research is now looking at possible hormonal imbalance of the progesterone receptor (since 95% of those affected are like 40 year old woman) some have has great success with HRT. Complete HRT. Who knows, if the same thing is happening it would put us in the same boat as the mirena IU women. In any event I think it’s only a matter of time before a really famous person speaks out, let’s hope
