jd24's story - what should i do now?

im 22, september 2006 (aged 21)i started 1mg finpecia
for 4/5 months i did this then 0.5 g for another 4 months and then 0.25 for another 4 months

around a month or 2 ago i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, i cant prove whether this is related however the days / when i took the treatment my blood sugar levels were raised quite a lot, this is not healthy for diabeteics or even for those who can produce insulin!

i stopped for 5 days for a blood test and then decided to stay quit,
on reflection i should of gone for the every other day approach etc.

i stopped on the 1st november, 23 days later i feel like my balls may be shrinking a bit, is it just in my head or is this possible? im getting the odd pain down there sometimes, even down my leg a little bit, otherwise though i do feel a LOT better for stopping, i feel like even my voice is a lot deeper now because of it, and random erections even when walking along which is rather amusing

whats the best course of action for me now? my girlfriend thinks i should get a blood test to see whats up, but as my doctor is a bit scary and will look at me as if im crazy then i am not too keen on this, also i didnt take one prior to the treatment so im not sure what this would achieve

any advice would be greatly appreciated
jd

Ball shrinkage as well as penile shrinkage after quitting does occur, particularly for guys that have their Testosterone levels crash afterwards. How is your sex drive?

The drug has been linked to diabetes: propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=600

Get bloodtests as outlined in Hormones section to see where you’re at after quitting the drug.

If you’re too scared of your doctor, that’s too bad – guess you’ll just have to accept your condition… because if you can’t fight for yourself, nobody else will do it for you.

thanks for replying
i regret doing the straight up quit now, i thought as my dose was low (at the time) it was safe to do so
as it wasnt really a planned quit so i didnt research it properlly

i take it it’s best to stay off it now?

my sex drive has been fine, getting feelings in particular about girls that only existed pre-fin days (very hard to explain but glad they are back!)

your comments are right i should really speak to someone about this and get some tests done, does anyone know a good doctor that is experienced with this in the london area?

will my balls ever go back to normal?

thanks again

jd

Please browse this site, there is a Doctors section there that might be of use (you need to be logged in).

It doesn’t sound like you are having any issues with erectile dysfunction or sex drive… how is your semen volume, low or high? You might want to consider a sperm test in addition to the blood test if you are concerned about fertility.

Nobody can say what your nuts will do, hopefully over time they should come back to size…

good advice,
i will be getting in contact with doctor minhas and will post up my results
due to the diabetes i have to excerise daily and eat well which will hopefully help

i havent noticed my semen levels being low, i think its a bit lower than my pre-fin days

i have had a read around the site, but apart from warm baths is there anything else i can do for my balls?

the ironic thing is, after all this i couldnt give a fuck about my hair anymore! when you face health problems head on it really highlights its just hair and its not important

If you’re concerned about your nuts see a Urologist and schedule a doppler ultrasound for your testicles to see what’s going on. Sorry, don’t have any extra advice otherwise I’d be back to size myself.

One more thing to check, before Boston jumps in here and screams Prostatitis – get your prostate checked out as well, for Prostatitis.

Further – since Fin’s main method of action is to reduce DHT and shrink the prostate, and cause progressive loss of function (see studies in Finasteride Studies section), you may be experiencing issues elsewhere in your sexual organs as a result of that as well.

I.e. like if you start to experience any sort of pain, burning, discomfort, or urinary symptoms at any point over the next few months, while you recover and things are adjusting back to normal, go get some Cipro and take a short course of the antibiotics to make sure you dont end up with chronic prostatitis symptoms.

To me, it sounds like you will be fine though. I would just eat healthy for a while, and be/stay very active. Thats the best thing you can do for yourself, while keeping your mind off of this and trying not to think about it. I have been eating a lot of diuretics, and apples, have really helped me a lot. I try to eat a few a day. They have all sorts of healthy enzymes, and other beneficial health properties, and such which seem to have helped me a lot, in all areas. And my nuts for the most part are feeling normal again. It just takes a little time dude, thats all. But I have been trying to eat largely a vegan, low sugar, low red meats/fat diet, which is also good for you.
Good luck man! It sounds like you will probably be ok though, which is good.
