Inflamed scalp - is DHT back in full force?

So I’ve been off Propecia for almost a year now, and I’ve developed a painful red scalp on my right side with lots of hair loss.

I’ve always lost more hair from the right side of head, and thats where the inflammation now occurs. I’ve also noticed increased loss from the left side but it is otherwise fine, with no inflammation.

So now no matter what I do, I can’t seem to get my scalp to heal. I’ve tried shampoos, creams etc. but nothing has helped. I saw the dermatologist, but the prescription shampoo and foam that he recommended has only aggravated the condition.

My best guess is that DHT has not only rebounded but is now being superproduced by my body, loading up into my scalp and triggering an immunal response from my body.

So now I’m stuck with the finasteride side effects AND massive hair loss. It’s hard to imagine life could be much worse. :frowning:

Has anybody else experienced something like this?

I also have post-fina side-effects, while losing my hair. I don’t have red scalp/inflammation but similar itchy sensations like before fina and I lose hair at similar rate.

I also think that DHT in my case is in normal range. Anyway, I’m still afraid of using any saw palmetto or even drinking a green tea :confused:

What are your current sexual sides? ED and low libido? Do you have morning erections or strong erections via stimulation?

I got a painful irritated scalp on/after fin. It’s sebarrheic dermatitits(?). I am in the same boat - mad fin sides and worse hair than ever…worst idea ever.

Hypothetical:

If 5AR2 activity has been damaged (responsible for 70% of circulating DHT), then perhaps it is simply 5AR1 (remaining 30%) that is responsible for hairloss, albeit at a slower rate… hence the continuation of Finasteride sexual side effects despite hair loss continuing.

My hairloss slowed down since I quit the poison. Before fin I had most of the areas affected by DHT (front, vertex). Now the hairloss that I have comes from the area which was the most sensitive and which occured just in the begining of my balding process which is vertex. I do not have any frontal sheeding, not any more. General hair matrix remains without any defence, it is directly opposite then it was before treatment, when I knew that it would be a matter of maybe 2 or 3 months to get completely bald…

Hairloss is something that speeds up over time in MPB
If you have the same amout of hairloss as you had before Fin, it rather means that your hairloss slowed down at this point.

My scalp has been sensitive ever since quitting fin, does your scalp sting, feel weird, burn etc? At its worst my especially the balding parts of my scalp HURT when wind blew on it…

If I had this common Burning Sensation feeling on my scalp (caused by full DHT output), I would propably not be hear…

It is strange that you have sexual sides with the agressive hairloss, it is strange because it rather means that your 5AR is ok then. In th past years whenever I stopped fin, and the massive hairloss started bothering me againg, my sexual eager was returning propotionaly to the level of hairloss I was going through.

That’s why I wonder if your hairloss is realy the way it should be which should be massive while quiting.

I did have a shed a few weeks after quitting and at the same time I felt generally weird…and then all hell broke loose. Wondering if the weird scalp feeling has to do with SD or DHT…oh well.
