I’ve been using propecia/proscar for 8-9 years with no problems. It stopped further hairloss & regew some hair.Recently the drug stopped working for me & my hairs began to miniaturise again. A doc advised me to up the dose to ½ a pill proscar a day (2.5mg proscar) & after 2 weeks the miniaturization stopped. On the 3rd week my scalp was drenched in oil. I have switched to head shoulders shampoo to try & stop the oiliness but after 3 weeks of use my scalp is still drenched in oil. Anyone else have a similar experience with oily scalp ? I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks in advance.
This forum is for men suffering from side effects since quitting the drug.
The only thing I can suggest is that you research “reflex hyperandrogenicity” as some hairloss sufferers have experienced what you describe, ie hairlosshelp.com/hair_loss_r … nicity.cfm
If you ever quit the drug and end up having many of the issues we are experiencing on this forum, this is the right place. But if you are still taking the drug then it will be of little value.

I would like to say that this is a serious side effect of propecia… also on the hairloss websites and abroad even in Holland they got now more attention than almost the hairloss itself… this is possible the beginning of developing seborrheic dermatitis… by propecia.
let me know how you think about it. I experienced myself as well while I was on and after Propecia
I had the same problem. I have taken propecia for about 7 months with amazing results. At some point somethinng happened Iagain started shedding again, real fast and drenched in oil.
I didnt know what to do and I quit.
What did you do? Did you have any luck?
Thanks,
p.s. sorry to bother you, but i guess we are the only two people in the forum experiencing this side effect…
I think I have the same problem. Took finasteride for 7 years. On the 8th year I very temporarily increased dosage to 2mg/day from 1mg/day out of fear of my hair miniaturizing again. Scalp became moderately more oily after but not too much. After another 6 months I realized a long list of my health problems (fatigue, insomnia, brain fog, etc) came from finasteride, so I quit. That was around May 2016. One month after quitting I gradually developed insanely oily scalp/forehead skin, unbearable itch/inflammation on scalp, and heavy shedding of hair, which just keep getting worse. I had acne bursts which I didn’t even have in my teen. I also sweat much more and had stronger body odor to the extent that my family pointed it out to me. My beard/body hair grew twice as long and is keep going. I lose tons of hair each day and my hairline advanced a solid 3 centimeters within just two months, and still going.
Another thing I noticed is, when I was on fin, I had little gain from the gym. After quitting fin, I gained some muscle mass even though I have a poor lifestyle now and stopped going to the gym.
When I was on finasteride, I had trouble getting hard and penis sensation was poor. Now my penis has become so sensitive to the touch when masturbating. That been said, my libido is low (similar or even worse than when on fin), possibly caused by my deep depression from all of this.
I wonder if there’s anything I can do for this reflex hyperandrogenicity?
I realize that this might be considered a bliss to many here. But I’m sure you understand my pain with my change in skin and the daily physical torture of inflammed scalp.
