I am a little sheepish to ask my question, as I am a long-term (20-year) user who has only recently discontinued using Proscar (I’d been quartering 5 mg tablets all that time), and by the standards of most here, I’ve experienced (as far as I know) only modest side effects (big drop in ejaculation volume; 30+ lb. weight gain-- including pronounced deposits around the breasts; and a notable loss of energy and vigor). I also don’t feel as “sharp” mentally as I once did-- but I hesitate to attribute that to taking the drug. In fact, for all of the above issues, I am still trying to figure out which of them can reasonably be attributed to my taking Proscar-- and which of them I should simply accept as normal elements of the typical aging process.
My question is: If each of these problems IS attributable to my having taken Proscar for the last 20 years, how soon might I (if I am lucky enough to be one of those who does recover from the drug) expect to see each of these problems correct themselves… in other words, after quitting cold, how soon might output volume return to normal, how soon might the extra weight (especially around the chest) start to dissipate, and when might energy levels return to normal? I realize that there is a distinct possibility that none of these issues correct themselves (or that each of these are due to normal aging, and not to Proscar-- in which case, there’s no reason to expect that quitting Proscar will fix them), but since I have been fortunate enough (by comparison to many others) to only experience mild side effects, I am hoping that perhaps I will also be fortunate enough to recover from those effects, now that I’ve stopped taking the drug.
So, I would appreciate if any here with experience in these matters would offer their views/estimates, in response to my question. Thank you, in advance, for any insights.
