Hi. So i took propecia daily for about two weeks and immediately noticed the sexual side effects. After I researched the drug online, I stopped and now its been about 2 weeks. Do you think I will have the long term effects even though I only took the drug for 2 weeks? Has anyone found anything to help reverse the effects like taking cialis or something like that temporarily? I am only 22 and very nervous. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.
Read FAQ at top of site for more info. Short answer: nobody knows who or why certain guys get permanent problems after taking the drug. If you find you do not recover to your former self, then you should get bloodwork per the list in FAQ to see what drug did to your hormones.
Generally, most guys destined to return to normal do so after 2 weeks-1.5 months.
I just started taking quartered Proscar. I’ve had 5 doses total, but I noticed weaker erections and they have been more difficult to attain starting about 2 days into taking it. I want to keep my hair, but I would rather keep my sexual funtions.
I haven’t had any for the past 2 days, and I’m pretty sure I won’t continue it.
What I’m curious about is - the horror stories of permanent, non-recoverable side-effects - were any of them from such a short period of use as my own? (I’ve had 1.25 Proscar in about a week.)
Here you can see a list of some guys that have taken the drug, in terms of length of time.
Thanks. Interesting.
I’m glad I found this forum. I heard that a lot of people taking it experienced a little dip in libido/erections initially, then got past it, but I don’t want to risk that seeing how some guys here see to be in really bad shape.
Luckily so far I’m still getting erections (just less often and weaker), my libido is fine and all other stuff like depression isn’t affecting me.
Well, even if it stays this way, at least someone will be happy (always an optimist). When I told my girlfriend that things weren’t working 100% she said that’s great news for her because she couldn’t keep up with me (which is why I thought it wouldn’t affect me).
Trust me, I and everyone else here thought the same thing (that it wouldn’t affect us… impotence? Erectile Dysfunction? Loss of sex drive? Yea right… maybe when you’re 70).
Turns out we were wrong on that, it can happen at any age thanks to this drug. We’re not as invincible as we think, and the body is a finely tuned machine that needs to be kept in optimal balance hormonally, to work correctly.
Throwing Finasteride into the mix is like throwing a monkey wrench into the whole works and hoping things will come out ok in the end, with no guarantees… despite what Merck might claim.
Anyway, good luck to you. Hope your issues resolve in the coming weeks.
Just an update which is hopefully encouraging amongst all the doom and gloom on this forum - it’s been a week or so since I stopped with the Proscar.
I continued to have sex from immediately when I stopped, but it’s gotten noticably better over the past two days. Erections appear much faster and feel stronger. There’s more sensitivity there too.
It’s not 100% but if the 1-1.5 months figure is right, I’ve still got a while to go before my system is fully clear of it. Plus I have a bad cold at the moment.
