How to test yourself for Candida

I have actually failed this test, but I honestly do question the effectiveness of this test. Though if this test is correct, then I do in fact have a case of candida. Check it out…

With my high progesterone level and now me testing positive in the spit test, I’m really starting to believe that this is a candida problem.

I just bought myself a box of GNC’s “The Complete Body Cleansing Program”. For 7 days I’m gonna be on a really strict diet and time schedule, I am going to do nothing but exercise and work out for my days, it is the summer and as of now I have no job and the semester hasn’t started. I will not smoke a single cigarette, I will eat very specific nutritious foods, I will swim laps and lift weights whenever I’m not eating, with time in the evening for relaxation.

With multi-vitamins combined with internal cleansing and more herbs than you can shake a stick at I only hope that it will do something.

I hope to make this a story of personal triumph which will inspire me for the rest of my life.

Since I read this post I’ve been looking into Candida. Before all my problems started 8 months ago I had to take antibiotics 2 separate times in 1 month. Then 3 weeks later I fell apart. I’m not 100% convinced that Candida is the reason but I won’t rule it out until I see the doctor tomorrow.

I also want to do a full colon/body detox so could you tell me how you’re doing? Did it make any difference? According to a lot of what I’ve read adding probiotics after you are finished your cleanse is very important.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m also not 100% convinced that candida is the culprit here, but the spit test did test positive for candida for me and as a young child I had been on anti-biotics numerous times, I think the heaviest times of anti-biotic use has been when I had been afflicted with pneumonia. I have also been strangely depressed and I was also diagnosed with ADHD as a child. I have also been eating a lot of yeast (bread) for as long as I can remember.

Even with all of that mentioned, candida causing the symptoms for the men on here is still only a theory, and one that some members of this forum are even hostile towards. But from what I can tell this is definitley something that needs some thinking outside of the box.

Right now I’m on day 6 of the 7 day GNC cleansing program, and it has actually been pretty mild. I think normally this stuff is supposed to make you take craps way more often than you normally would, but for me I’ve only noticed a minor increase in the frequency of defocating. I have done my best as far as sticking to the routine of the program goes, and I think I’ve only felt some minor improvements. The box does come with a bottle of probiotic capsules. Nutrition and exercise are also supposed to be important aspects, so I take the GNC sports multi-vitamin which also includes l-glutamine, which is also a GABA precursor, and I lift weights and walk around when I can.

I think I’m going to do the spit test tommorow first thing in the morning and see if I still have candida, if I see that I still do, I think I’m gonna go buy some tablets they sell at GNC which are supposed to specifically target candida. There’s also a special sort of yeast-free diet which can help, but going on any diet for me is not an easy task as my life is not on any schedule at the moment, nor do I even have access to a kitchen. I am willing to try anything short of getting an enema, and if the dark day that I run out of options comes and its the only thing I can do, I guess I’ll just have to bite the bullet.

Paul waters is quite possibly the #1 most hated and #1 most valuable member of this forum at the same time, the guy has made a ridiculously huge impact on here in a small amount of posts, but I give some merit to the GHB theory as well, because it is true that it does release more human growth hormone, and I have also read elsewhere on this forum that a doctor (Shippen?) was able to cure some guys with HGH.

I would also suggest reading the book “The Edge Effect”.

Good luck and best wishes

I like to think I’m up there with being hated.

As for Candida, if that’s what you have then you are fucked as well. There are number of forums for Candida yeast infections…and they’re lives are miserable.

A simple GNC colon cleanse is not gonna do anything for you. I think you know that as well, cuz if you really felt like this is the issue than you wouldn’t be ‘pretty good’ at keeping to the routine…u’d be spot on. Also, if was Candida you would’ve taken a real approach at treating it.

Quit grasping for straws. Candida is a whole different ball game than what you have here.

Jack

I’m sorry that you have to feel that way, but I personally think it is a good idea to look into every nook and cranny to try to beat this thing. I have a lot of belief that most people on here had some sort of underlying condition or sucsceptibility to this condition. Whether this is genetic or environmental I can not say, but I can say that on a “normal” physiological human model finasteride does not do this sort of damage.

Also the guy working the register at GNC told me that as long as I don’t eat any junk food or too much bread and take a good multi-vitamin everyday the cleanse should work.

Rockin I would also believe that you are probably more likely than me to have a candida infection, if I remember correctly you made a post about having abdominal bloating, and even posted a picture, this is a symptom of a candida infection.

So I ask you to take the spit test, it’s very simple, just put a glass of water next to you when you’re sleeping, and first thing in the morning spit into it.

If your glass of water looks anything like the depiction in the link, do not let pride keep you from posting the result.

For those of you who don’t know how to copy and paste, here is a working link of the URL I posted above.

Yes, cuz the guy working behind the GNC counter at $8.00/hr really knows his stuff.

I don’t have Candida or any type of other infections. I took a Hydrogen Breath test that yielded negative results. Dr. still prescribed a round of Rifaxamin. Didn’t do anything. My bloating stopped and ongoing weight loss (by effort) is a result of discontinued use of shampoo with Tea Tree oil.

google.com/search?sourceid=n … +disruptor

There’s several other links that support it. Just Google it (sorry Hypo).
All my shit started 2-3 months after I started using American Crew Shampoo that has Tea Tree oil in it. I had used Propecia for 7 yrs without ever once having a sexual side effect.

I wouldn’t rely on a spit test unless a real MD took value in it. Otherwise it’s just something that makes you look even more ridiculous when you seek treatment to retarded tests that you read about on the internet.

Jack

Interesting… I’ve actually been using Paul Mitchell’s tea tree shampoo myself, but generally I only use it about once every 4 days, alternating with dr. lee’s ketaconazole shampoo and paul mitchell’s regular volumizing shampoo. Needless to say, this combination makes my hair look pretty damn nice, but I guess if the tea trea shampoo has detrimental effects I might have to stop it, and perhaps the ketaconazole too, because it is an inhibitor of certain pathways, and dr lee’s formula contains salyclic acid to make it absorb even more than it normally does.

Interesting to see that something topical can have internal side effects…

As for the spit test there’s multiple sites on the net for it, and I am actually seeing a homeopathic doctor this friday, so I will be getting the “official” diagnosis.

I agree that it’s important to be open to and investigate every possible cause for our conditions no matter how doubtful the connection seems at first. If it turns out that a number of us have Candida then there is a definite possibility that propecia has some connection to it.

I went and spoke to my GP and he said that Candida is very much a possibility but it is extremely difficult to test for. I asked him about the spit test as well as to a few nutritionists and none of them say they use this test to diagnose Candida, so who knows how accurate this test is. My GP wanted to give me an anti-fungal to see what happens but the drawback to it is if I don’t have Candida this would kill all the “good” yeast and fungus in my body as well as strengthening “bad” fungus if the dosage is not enough to kill them off. This is a very dangerous situation so I turned it down.

I’m willing to try a Candida diet as well as a Candida cleanse to see if my side effects get any better. My sides by the way are anxiety, panic, depression, brain fog, concentration difficulties, memory loss, dizziness, and headaches. I just don’t know what to do: go to the GNC and get a few things on my own or pay a naturopath $130 and then buy what they recommend.

Big Softie, what are your sides?
Any thoughts, anyone?

This is worth a look. You can see how many of our sides show up on this Candida sides chart.

annboroch.com/pdf/conditions_candida.PDF

All my sideeffects are listed as a potential effect of candida overgrowth!
That dont mean nothing since they listed every possible sideeffect known to man as a potential sideeffect from candida on that page…

Alot of ppl here have issues with bloating / poor stools / intestines or similar stomach related symptoms. Could maybe be candida could be alot of other stuff too. Most docs will just give u the Irritable Bowel Syndrome diagnose when presenting these longlasting symptoms we have. An interesting connection to IBS (IBS basicly means the docs dont know whats wrong) is that its alot more common in women and the men who gets it usually have low T… So even if thats what we have we could just be chasing our tales if trying to treat it instead of the underlaying issues. Just a thought.

I know this has been dead a while and Candida isn’t a popular idea, but I was just looking into bloating and this came up. Anyway I took the spit test and it was a positive result for me too. Not sure exactly how credible this is, but hey, it was worth a shot since my symptoms are real. Maybe a cleanse isn’t a bad idea.

3pm, and now what are you going to do? did you show the results to a doctor?
thanks

I just did this today so no, but I have an appointment with a gastro soon and I’ll probably ask him about it. As far as what I’ll do, I might try some kind of cleanse since I need to stop my bloating and other digestive issues. This resonates with my persistent fatigue and brain fog as well, but everytime I make a connection like this its rather sketchy and do we have candidasis? Something tells me no, but I can’t prove that at this time.

I honestly doubt Candida is the source of anyone’s problems here, especially considering the hormonal and physical genitalia/breast changes due to Finasteride use… as well as the short time frame for guys’ T levels to come crashing down just weeks after quitting.

Candida does not induce such changes, but quitting the medication did within a period of days or weeks for some people.

I thought I had candida and one point way before I thought propecia was affecting me. However I was on propecia for 4 years just about. Around the 3rd year is when I was reviewing candidia. The whole time I was suffering from symptoms I was doing process elimination on every condition that had my symptoms. I tried the Three Lac stuff and also the diet. The morning spit test is funny, I dont feel its that accurate. You know why? Asking some of your family members to do it, I did. And guess what… It showed they had Candida. So does everyone have Candida? Highly doubt it. Not trying to be negative but I have done a blood test on it that came back negative. The last test I did was the ALCAT test about 7 months ago cause I thought I had food allergies. That company specializes in food allergies and test your blood with specfic foods to see if your antibodies act up. Apart of that test its said I had a low case of candida. The lady at the office I spoke with said it wasnt that bad but just try to not eat sugar and try this rotation diet for 6 months. It should be gone by I think 1 month. The diet always helped with many of my symptoms during the whole search. However being able to feel normal and not be emptional numb was because i was still on propecia. I feel alot better off propecia and am making progress. Im not currently on the diet but can say that eating healthy does help out alot. It will take at least 2 weeks to help cause you will probably have withdrawals and die off symptoms from yeast which I heard. If some of you think thats the problem try it out and see how you feel. good luck

Also just wanted to add. If you do feel good on the diet, it doesnt necessarily mean you have candida. Eating the right foods like rice, baked potato, broccolli, other vegtables, drinking water and just eating natural will make you feel better in general.

I agree, I don’t think Candida has caused any of the “tissue changes” or hormonal deficiencies, but what about the digestive problems certain men have here? I seriously have bloating that does not go away and all I hear is IBS or constipation from doctors… I want to know why I would develop something like that.

you are wasting your time with this ‘candida’
trust me , i spent 2 months on the candida diet and a couple hundred on useless supplements that did nothing to improve my condition
this was about a year back

I knew I had candida, firstly because my tongue was all white and also my penis (behind the foreskin)was getting lots of spots and looking off colour.

I think this looked like a yeast infection. I ordered Candex from the States and taken one every night and now everything has cleared up.

This thread is very interesting. I have suspected that my issues are a result of antibiotic use prior to the onset of symptoms. I stopped using propecia at around the same time I just came off about a month long stint of antibiotics.

Also, after I stopped using propecia and my sides were in full effect, I was doing a detox and was told to get a colon cleanse. About 4 hrs after the colon cleanse, my libido came back with a vengence. It was the most horny ive ever been in my life.

What does this mean? No idea. I went and had another colon cleanse - as you would, only to have no positive reaction whatsoever.

All of that said, I still think my issues may well be colon/gut flora related. I am going back to see a doc who is very good with gut flora and gut permeability and im going to get my stools retested for parasites.

Rockin, telling the boys here to do anything but be thorough with their investigation of these health problems is counter-productive. EVERY nook and cranny must be investigated until you or someone else (preferably with a PHD) can give us a better solution.

Candida can cause monsterous problems to your health and if its not Candida, it may well be somthing very similar. If you have a crook gut, you have a crook liver the problems snow ball from there. Do some research and you will find this out yourself.
