How to get back to normal?

I am 36 years old and have been off Propecia since about June 2007, I took the drug for around 9 months total.

I stopped taking to drug due to my low libido(very low) sex drive and desire. I am still experiencing this symptom today (only have intercourse with my wife about 1-2 times/month or so) and also when I stopped taking the drug I started to experience gynecomastia, even today my chest has recovered somewhat more flat and normal but I still have some slight enlargment around the nipples.

I just had a blood test to check my testosterone levels and should know my results soon. My question is what kind of other tests should I have done and what can be done to treat my symptoms to reverse the effects of the damage that propecia has done to me?

Thanks for your help.

3-Adiol-G, Urine Androgen Metabolites, LH, FSH, Vitamin D… You can all these done to pretty much confirm if you have it or not as they are usually all out of whack in us. Also thyroid hormones are good to get, Cortisol, and REVERSE T3. Maybe throw in a fertility test for good measure.

What can be done to treat the symptoms? Depending on the symptoms you are reffering to might be nothing it really depends. For me T3 has seemed to help a little, as well as a lot of time and rest.

Thanks for your response.

My testosterone levels was in fact low, it was 174. The Dr. told me it shold be 270 at least. I am going to get a prescription for to help me raise my testosterone levels back to normal. Thankfully I did this test and should be back to getting normal soon.

I will discuss my local Dr and may get a prescription for testosterone. I am also getting a follow up lab test tomorrow morning to check for the following items while I will be fasting. I am hopeful the testosterone treatment will help me with my symptoms and am eager to see the results for the lab for the following tests.

  • Total testosterone
  • Comp. Metabolic Panel w/eGFR(screen for and detect early kidney damage and to monitor kidney status)
  • Lipid Panel(Cholesterol)
  • CBC w/Diff(The complete blood count)
  • FSH(Follicle stimulating hormone/Pituitary gland check)
  • LH(The LH blood test measures the amount of luteinizing hormone which helps produce testosterone)
  • Prolactin(Prolactin levels may be ordered, along with other hormone levels such as growth hormone, when a doctor suspects that a person has more general hypopituitarism)
  • TSH w/Reflex T-4 (This test is used to identify hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism)
