How to check your current output of 5 alpha reductase type II

Many of us consider having some problems with 5 Alpha reductase type II.

As we already know this is practicaly not possible to test 5AR genetic expression, whether it is downregulated or swithed off.

I think for those of you having problems with identifying the real cause of the problem, for those who does not have hounder of thosand euro/dolars to perform a lab test to check genetic expression, I have a pretty good solution.

Buy Propecia and take one tablet and check if you feel that it actually inhibits anything. When I was popping Finasteride it was very characteristic, that within a few minutes after I popped the pill, I felt that it really takes action. If there will be no action at all, you might understand better what is going on with you.

If you know any cheaper way to check what is your 5AR type II status please let me know.

I hope no one follows this idiot’s advice! Obviously he is a troll because no one who has suffered like we have would ever consider taking another pill again.

I am not convinced it is not possible to test for 5AR activity, in fact I recall reading that Dr Crisler has done it via 24 Urine panel.

Markus I understand the endo you saw claimed it was not possible via regular labs, however as you know many docs dismiss a lot of things they don’t know about.

I will be investigating this myself once it comes time for additional bloodwork.

Majkellos, I understand your concept but really, it is not practical nor is anyone here interested in ingesting Finasteride ever again. As I’ve stated many times in the past, if you are going to post theories and such, you need to back up your claims with studies/factual proof, otherwise nobody will believe you.

It is the least that I expected here to by annoyed by a rude animal like you Marcus.

My advice is for people who are realy paranoid about having 5AR type II switched off. Maybe this way would calm those who consider having such ideas in the back of their head.

Well, you can always check gene expression by quantitative real-time PCR, but you need a “control” for comparison and isolate the RNA from a "type of cell " where that gene is functional. Furthermore, the protein itself can be modified which doesn’t show up on gene expression profiles.
