How many more?

Tonight I found two young men on Reddit who are reporting sexual side effects and speculating if Propecia is the cause. I expect this is the very start of their journey…

"Since I started this current streak, I haven’t gotten any random erections. This used to happen to me in past streaks about a year back.
I’ve had some lower abdominal pain and a strong urge to reach for my cock, but never an erection besides very mild morning wood.
“I just turned 30 and I’ve been taking Propecia (finasteride 1mg daily) for the past few years. I hope that has nothing to do with this.”

“I am currently dating a girl that just loves to have sex and can’t get enough of it. If it were up to her, we would have sex multiple times every day. Luckily for me, with our schedules we can only have sex once or twice a week.
I just get so bored during sex. I hate it, it seems like the biggest waste of time. I do like kissing and cuddling a lot, but, I get very little from sex.
And, it’s not just with this current girl, it’s been like this for the past 4 or so years. I do remember that when I was around 13/14, I used to think about sex 24/7, but over the years I just started wanting sex less and less until not wanting it at all.
Is this medical? I should add that starting around 16 or 17, I can’t remember exactly when, I started taking propecia although I stopped taking it around 19.
tl;dr: disinterested in sex, is it a medical condition?”

How many other men out there are wondering the same and simply not writing about it or telling their doctors? And even if they do tell anyone, who believes them anyway?

My wife’s cousin’s husband took Propecia years ago. He’s had multiple health issues (depression, low libido, restless leg syndrome), but nothing ever severe enough (no crash) to really check into it. When I had my severe reaction we let him know about it. He now suspects the Propecia for all his problems.

As far as I know he doesn’t have an account here.

I guess my point is: I bet there are thousands of guys with little nagging issues that just think “it’s a part of getting older” so they never make the connection. I think Propecia creates an even far wider footprint of problems than just us severe cases.

sounds just like me, I chalked a bunch of my propecia sides to just getting older, but now I see that thats not the case at all.

This may add up to hundreds of thousands of guys. Once we start getting more press coverage I wonder if we’ll have more men coming forward. I think the problem is that many men don’t talk about their health, let alone their sexual health.

[i]A survey last month for the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign suggested that nearly twice as many men as women had not visited their GP in the past year.
Evidence suggests fewer men go to dentists or ask the pharmacist for advice and information, or attend contraception clinics, although men are more likely to end up in hospital because they delay for so long.

Even male cancer helplines are used more by women, speaking on behalf of partners, fathers or sons. And the fact that more women get skin cancer than men but more men die from it, indicates how late men are going to doctors.

I don’t even bother going to the doctor anymore unless its something clearly NOT PFS related.

Best sentence i’ve ever read so far on this forum.

If I had passed on going to my GP I would still be healthy. I was so anti meds and doctors. The one fucking time I decided to go and trust the fucking doctor this shit happed to me.

 Whether this is serious or just a joke it really made my day!

Do you know about an illness or symptom that is clearly not PFS related? If a guy claimed that finasteride made him cough, and then made him 100 years older, and then teared down his limbs along with his cock I could still believe him.

I meant for instance an infection or something that is obviously treatable.

MCIBOFH, why don’t you sue your doctor? Just curious, my situation is very different and I seem to be recovering, but if I had been told to go on it and all that happened I would sue, but I chose to go on Avodart myself and asked for samples.

No one in the medical community believes that the drug causes all these issues. Until that’s clear I think I would loose any lawsuit.

Sure, healing some worms, bone fractures and similar things may not be beyond the abilities of docs. But other than that…
