How many men have Shippen & Chrisler actually helped?

I have been following this forum for about a year now. I have read dozens of posts buy guys raving about these two doctors. However, I have not read a single recovery thread from a guy that has gone to either of these two doctors and recovered.

If anyone is still participating here and has been helped to recover by one of these doctors, please speak up and let us know how these doctors helped you; or if anyone can recall a member who was suffering but went to one of these two and likely recovered please let us know. My definition of recovery would be a 30% improvement or better.

If I can’t make progress with recovering with my current doctor. I would certainly consider going to one of these two. I just don’t see any evidence yet that would warrant spending the money or time to fly out and see one of these doctors.

I think I read a thread, that Chrisler claims to be able to help about 50% of the men he sees suffering from propecia sides. Where are all these men?

I guess the answer is, none.

Hi. Just dropping in and reading some posts during a boring mtg im in.

Not sure if we’ve ever conversed so apologize if you don’t know me…check out some of my posts over the years and u’ll know who i am.

Anyway during my time on the board(s) I made a good friend of it and still keep in touch with him to this day…swrtw2001…he was more on the yahoo board b4 it got moved over here.

he’s been seeing crisler for over 2 yrs now…with no real success. he’s had glimmers of hope with ‘a few days’ of ‘slight improvment’ but has never gotten the ball over the goal line. we only talk about the clear defined side effects of his which all revolve around libido.

anyway crisler has him on T, HCG, and now some dhea cream…unfortunately at times he says he feels worse than b4 beginning this treatment.

just sharing what I know one person who has used crisler. this has all been via phone as friend lives in BC.

good luck.

Bostonusa2009: I would just go to Shippen if I were you, he’s nearer and might get you going with clomid/hcg or similar.
I don’t know, your symptoms seem milder than many on here but are clearly taking up too much headspace and causing distress hence you’re always posting. Seeing a good doc with plenty of experience directly related to fin would likely help you, and you could relay back your experience to the rest of us.

I am not considering going to either of these doctors any time in the near future. I have a good endo doctor now, that I think will help me. If he doesn’t I might consider him in the future.

I’m just trying to understand why everyone keeps recommending these two doctors when it seems they haven’t really helped anyone that we know of.

They seem to be the only two doctors that anyone can get to honestly listen to and appraise the condition. Shippen seems to report less success with treatment than Chrisler, regardless of the true success rates. But considering the battles we’ve been fighting for recognition the major hurdle is already cleared with these docs…

Precisely. Even though they may not have “the cure”, both have recognized the drug can cause these issues, and have spoken out about it publically. This is very valuable when seeking medical help, considering most docs just dismiss our claims, tell you everything is psychological in nature and that Finasteride could never cause persistent side effects. That, plus they are willing to try treatments to help correct the issues.

My current endo does believe propecia caused my problems and is willing to treat me once he can make a dianosis. I do agree it is very difficult to simply find a doctor that believes that Propecia caused your problem. I was just curious to know if these guys had a higher success rate than most other endocrinoligists. It appears that is not the case. They just recognize that propecia can cause these problems and are willing to treat us men.
