How do merck come up with their "statistics" ?

Merck say that only 2 or 3% of people who use Finasteride suffer side effects. How do they come up with this number ? it seems like complete BS to me.

Why don’t you call Merck and ask?

I think the number would have been higher if they used young men only in the studies… If most of the men were in their 30’s, 40’s or even older - the result is flawed IMO.

the statistics are bold lies and are self serving to merck, without any doubt

How do Merck come up with their stats?

Its quite a technical process. It involves a few drinks after work on a friday night a blind fold and a dart board.

You set up a test at your lab with your employees to give you the results you want. Pretty simple.

bullshitting, imagination

Well, thanks to the excellent work of the pfs foundation we now know the answer to the thread’s original question in part - despite the part of the trial which examined the efficacy of finasteride in protecting against hairloss being of a high standard (that which they were very keen to demonstrate worked a treat), it appears that there was absolutely no system in place to effectively monitor and evaluate adverse events - surprise surprise - so any data they did reluctantly collect would have to have been actively submitted by participants without any enquiries on the part of Merck as to any potential negatives. That’s what I took from it anyway. I recommend that everyone should listen to the authors of the study being interviewed:

I heard Michael LaCour from UCLA was in charge of the follow up surveys…
