Hire our own researcher

Mew - I am new to the board, once I found this site and finally admitted I had done this to myself I couldn’t read the posts for 6 months. Anyway I think the post from ScaredMale30 sums up the desperation I felt when I first logged onto this site.

In order to take control of our own destinys maybe we could hire our our researcher to help with our cause. If we could get 100 people on the board to commit to contribute $1000.00 each that would be 100K. We couldn’t hire an MD for that but maybe we could get a college professor or a PHd student looking for a dissertation subject. I’m just trying to think outside the box here. I’m sure you have already thought of this. I’ll be happy to put my name on the list to write the first check.

Likewise we could do the same to hire a lawyer to sue Merck. I think this is secondary to trying to find root cause of our illness. I apologize if you have already discussed these items.

… that is the path discussion is currently going. Actually finding someone to do the study is a different matter, however. But yes, if people were willing to contribute funds AFTER we have found a willing research candidate to conduct a study on us, then I’m sure we could take action at that time to collect the funds.

Mew - Thanks for the link to the current thinking on this. I’ve never studied biology much (high school only) so this is way over my head. I’m glad that you and some other people on the board understand much of the science.

Trying to think outside the box again, instead of a researcher, possibly we could start a fund, and fund one person from the board (I was thinking someone like chams who has alot of scientific knowledge) to get all the testing he needs to get to the root of the problem. Since a researcher will have to do this anyways, we could take the researcher out of the loop (saves money) and have our one designated patient try to get himself diagnosed with cause of illness. Once we knew the cause, maybe then we would have to hire a researcher to find a cure, or hopefully our designated patient would be cured and could pass the information on to the rest of us.
