HELP...IM ABOUT TO START PROPECIA TREATMENT - ANY WORDS OF WISDOM?

Hello, I am 20 years old and my hair has started to thin out.
My mother who is a doctor herself booked me an appointment with a dermatologist which was well regarded in Harley street. He put me on a propecia treatment started immediately without any hesitation. The whole affair lasted less than 10 mins (but cost a whopping £300). He told me that the side effects were negligible with 2% of people reporting any signs of impotence.
When my mother found out that I was prescribed propecia she was very wary and insisted that she carried out research into this field before I comitted to the treatment. She warned me that unscrupolous doctors will be willing to prescribe a drug even though its side effects are undesirable merely to satisfy the wants of the client.
Having stumbled on this website my deepest fears have been confirmed - the side effects are very real.
I want to know whether I can detect signs of impotence at an early stage as my hair loss is very distressing.
Is there any early signs that I should pay attention to? Surely a doctor with such ranking could prescribe me an unsuitable drug?

It’s your body, you choose what you put in it. Most docs read the prescribing info on the package which is supplied by Merck, and that’s that. They aren’t interested in, or have the time, to research the possible side effects and severity of those side effects for every drug they prescribe. So, if you want to risk potential side effects, that is your choice.

Some guys don’t get side effects, others get them within days, weeks, months or years. If you can’t get it up after taking Finasteride, that should tell you something.

My advice to you is to find other ways to battle your hairloss, but if you want to risk it, nobody can stop you.

I will just add that two doctors in the U.S. have told me that Propecia is a poison and should be taken off the market. Obviously the members on this forum know this but it seems you want to hear it from a doctor.

Actually, they’re more like proofs of negligence.

I understand that apparently most men do not report side effects in taking Propecia, but it definitely effects too many important aspects of your body to even risk it. Your mental, nervous, sexual and overall health would be at serious risk, and you do not want to feel how members of this forum do.

Said this to someone else last night, but I definitely urge you to not take this. Consider it a blessing that your mother investigated this, and deal with your thinning hair in other ways.

You’re about my age (I’m 21) so I really don’t want to see you endanger the best time of your life with a drug that certainly doesn’t seem safe in any way. If its cosmetic appearance you’re torn over, rest assured, Propecia hardly helps the hair in any covetous way. Do what you must to avoid Propecia is my advice.

Professionals awakening to this is always nice to hear. If you can please explain their views of Propecia further… the more docs disproving Merck’s claims the better for us.

I am referring to Crisler and Shippen.

Ah, understood then. lol
