HELP! Horrible physical symtoms ( severe severe dry skin, aging, muscle loss)

Welcome to our community. Please fill in the following template as a way of introducing yourself, and helping others to understand your background and situation.

Where are you from (country)? Spain

How did you find this forum (Google search – if so, what search terms? Via link from a forum or website – if so, what page? Other?)
I met you when looking for information on whether finasteride could produce dry skin.

What is your current age, height, weight?
31, 1.83, 95kg

What specific drug did you use (finasteride, dutasteride, saw palmetto, isotretinoin/Accutane, fluoxetine, sertraline, citalopram, leuprorelin, etc…)?
Finasteride 1mg and oral minoxidil

What dose did you take (eg. 1 mg/day, 1 mg every other day etc.)?
1 mg every day

What condition was being treated with the drug?
Hair loss

For how long did you take the drug (weeks/months/years)?
two and a half months

How old were you, and WHEN (date) did you start the drug?
30

How old were you when you quit, and WHEN (date) did you quit?
31

How did you quit (cold turkey or taper off)?
I started reducing the dose to see if the side effects are reduced, by checking that it didn’t work I became cold turkey.

How long into your usage did you notice the onset of side effects?

My case has been very strange. The first few weeks I started taking this poison I noticed even greater hair loss, my hairline receded on the sides within the first three weeks and in addition I lost hair all over my head in a diffuse way as if I was literally in chemotherapy. I got acne, more oily skin and irritated and painful scalp. After these first symptoms and by listening to the dermatologist’s shit I kept on the medication and that’s when I started to gain weight, lost all my physical form, wrinkles, flabby skin all over my body and the symptom that worries me the most is dry skin. This symptom is very very extreme, to the point that I have “cracks” in my hands and face. I look in the mirror and I don’t recognize myself and I really don’t want to go on living.

I had always had very oily skin, in fact I had seborrheic dermatitis. Another strange symptom is that dry skin has caused my skin to become irritated every time I use a shampoo or shower.

What side effects did you experience that have yet to resolve since discontinuation?
Stop medication for facial changes, wrinkles on hands and face, dark circles and puffy face. After two weeks without taking this poison my skin is even drier and it hurts especially on my hands and feet. I also notice a lot of muscle weakness. My whole body is full of pelt.

What (if any) treatments have you undertaken to recover from your side effects since discontinuation of the drug?
I ask for help from the forum so I can start my recovery. I don’t know whether to start a TRT or DHT therapy or wait for my body to recover. I have read that there are cases that get worse with hormone replacement therapy

If you have pre or post-drug blood tests, what hormonal changes have you encountered since discontinuing the drug (please post your test results in the “Blood Tests” section and link to them in your post)?
I get them next week with an endocrinologist. He told me I might have low testosterone. I had some pre-medication tests and my testosterone was 750.

Anything not listed in the above questions you’d like to share about your experience?

Tell us your story, in your own words, about your usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.

I think my case has clearly been an upregulation in starting to take this shit. That’s why I lost practically all the hair I had and stopped taking it. What I don’t understand is how I went from having very oily skin to having very dry skin. My face is quite different from how it used to look and I hope that the wrinkles and dry skin can improve. I went off the medication thinking that in a few weeks it would get better.

My recovery plan is to start taking collagen peptides, vitamin B, magnesium, keto diet and strength exercises with weights (high loads that stimulate testosterone). I’m thinking about taking a leave of absence from work because I’m a broken man and I’d like to focus all my efforts on recovering.

any help or advice is welcome. I can’t believe this is happening to me. Has anyone ever recovered from dry skin?

Can an upregulation cause muscle wastage? Shouldn’t it cause you to gain more muscles?

Also, it’s possible that your hair follicles are more sensitive to testosterone, and so the increase in testosterone from blocking dht caused increased hair loss.

How long are you off from the drug?

I’m sorry to hear you’re in this condition, and glad to see you’re focusing on it. Keto, exercise with heavy weights, and the right nutrients seem to help things for some of us. Please keep that up, and you’ll eventually seem improvements.

There are also a couple of new posts that speak about acne and a correlation wIt’s our condition. Please look them up and see if there are any parallels to what you’re experiencing. And please stay on this forum. We want to know how you’re doing.

Welcome to the forum @lacpaz and I’m so sorry to read of your symptoms. Can you say approximately how long ago you stopped using finasteride?

Thank you all for the welcome at the forum.

I was taking finasteride for two months then I was two weeks taking it every other day. I stopped finasteride two week ago (cold turkey)

I have not found any cases of improvement with skin changes and dryness. I wouldn’t mind trying DHT replacement but I don’t know if this could be too risky or at the moment wait

Wait a few months before you do anything.

Right now, your body is in a very volatile state and things may change even months from now.
I’m at the 3 month mark, and things are still changing for me.
I would reach some baseline first and then determine next steps.

Brother welcome, next 12 weeks are going to be a HELL of a ride for you.

Your dry skin might improve. I GAINED new symptoms two weeks after quitting fin, such as dry skin and a rash and extreme dry eyes (yes you read that correctly, after quitting I got new symptoms). Now im 8 weeks off and my dry eyes and dryness of my skin have become a bit better.

Also the rash I had is gone. Stay strong and keep us posted about your bloodworks and symptoms.

OK, given that is still very recently I would very much advise you to not “do” anything in particular other than give yourself a lot more time. Unfortunately, things like

have very limited success rates in those who have tried it. If what you have is PFS (which we typically define as symptoms which persist for more than 3 months post-cessation) then replacing DHT will not solve the problem. PFS is not low DHT.

If you have good medical insurance, I suggest you get labs for everything-every hormone and everything you can measure. Something has to indicate what is happening, especially as things continue to change. See an endocrine specialist, a urologist and see whatever doctor prescribed finasteride to you and get those labs. They may indicate what is changing, or show dramatic changes in the first couple of weeks.

What’s ur post finasteride Testosterone level ?

Is it normal to notice that now that I have left the medication the skin is losing even more firmness? My skin feels like “gum”. This is getting worse by the day and the skin on my scalp is so dry that it is flaking.

This shit has arruined my face

can you post a before and after pic of your face or perhaps your skin?

Pre-fin hair and skin (28 march 2020) and face (i prefer not show all, but I always was a handome boy, now look a piece of shit)

During the posion (puffy face)

Two week without the poison

And what worries me is no longer the hair, which I have accepted that I have lost thanks to this poison. What really matters to me is regaining the smooth and wrinkle-free skin that I had, just like “normal” skin. Notice how the texture is really strange, besides I don’t know if you can see it but it is really dry. I am sure that It is the worst case in this forum ever. Only two months in this.

You’re losing collagen because the androgen receptors aren’t taking in testosterone due to being upregulated. Androgen receptors account for 50% of collagen content in the skin.

Right now I’m on MK-677 which isn’t talked about enough on here. I’m 12 months deep into PFS and this is the only thing that has given me improvements to my skin.

Another thing not talked about here at all is carb backloading which is when you fast all day then eat 200+ g’s of carbs at bedtime. When I do that I wake up with 10 years younger looking moist, glowing skin every time and it lasts throughout the day.

Actually I can see it brother. Your skin and hair looks dry and wrinkly in the post-fin pics, you therefore look a lot older. Why did you take fin, your hair seemed fine??

Taking fin is playing Russian roulette, I hope that your skin will improve with time. I have dry skin and less collagen around my eyes --> more wrinkles (also have dry eyes). It did get a bit better compared to a few weeks ago.

Finasteride makes you age fast, nearly all of its symptoms are related to aging (dry skin, memory problems, ED, dry eyes, joint pains etc.)

I have all the same issues. I’m currently trying proviron out in the “cured after 11 years” thread. Stay strong brother! A lot of people even those who have pfs on this site do not understand just how much physical damage pfs can cause and how life altering it can be.

What is the proviron for? Is it for skin dryness?

Keep us updated please

How are you doing brother, any improvements? I also got the same dryness in my face and wrinkles and eyes are sunken.I look like I havent slept in days or like I am a crackjunky.

You’re losing collagen because the androgen receptors aren’t taking in testosterone due to being upregulated.

Can you clarify what you mean?

Androgen receptors produce 50% of collagen in Male skin. PFS is characterized in part by androgen receptors not functioning.
