Have You Had These Problems With Proscar ?

I went of proscar about a month ago as i have endured some urinary problems and want to resume it since it did not seem to cause it. I used to take 1.25mg and have had a number of tests to figure out what is wrong and still nobody knows. I had this same problem after taking saw dust palmetto supplements about 2 years ago but no one knew then either. I feel full like i need to go to the rest room but very little comes out. I have had insulin levels checked sugar levels checked, a psa test, and a c-reactive protein test which also came back normal. The only thing was that my cholesterol and triglyceride where a little low as well as the rcc. I had an ultra sound of the pubis and umbilicus checked if there was a hernia. I also had the urachal checked and there was nothing.

Has Anyone else had these similar dilemmas. Should i go on the proscar again? Have anymore tests done?

I would appreciate peoples feedback on this because i am stumped.

Well Proscar shrinks your prostate, so if your urinary incontinence problems stemmed from an enlarged prostate before you took Finasteride, it should have helped. How old are you?

While on Finasteride and since discontinuing, I myself notice I have to piss a lot more often, and the urge is more sudden. Others share similar experiences here: propeciahelp.com/forum/viewt … hlight=pee

I’m assuming the ultrasound you had done checked your Prostate as well? How is your bloodwork, do you have high Estrogens/Estradiol? Have you had your bladder checked (ultrasound etc)?

From what I understand, high Estrogen levels (typically later in a man’s life as his T begins to decline) can cause the prostate to enlarge and lead to BPH.

Since you were on Proscar (how long?), and since Finasteride can lead to an increase in Estrogen levels in men (hence Gynocemastia), you might want to investigate your hormones as per bloodtests outlined on this site.

Perhaps your E2 levels are sky high as a result of the drug which is in fact, causing your prostate to enlarge and causing you these problems.

I am in My 20’s.Prostate was not checked on ultrasound but bladder was which was normal.My PSA was normal as well.Blood test was essentially in range however no estrogen levels were checked.I was on proscar for well over a year. How long after quitting finestaride did your problems subside? Where you on propecia or proscar?

I was on Proscar as well 1.25mg/day for 11 months.

You should get your Prostate checked by a Uro, and get an Ultrasound / DRE (Digital Rectal Examination). Also get your Estrogen levels checked:

  • Estradiol
  • Estrone
  • Estriol
  • Total Estrogens
  • DHT (of course, since the drug inhibitted this)
  • others as outlined in Hormones & Bloodtests section if you can

If you were on Proscar for well over a year, that is certainly plenty of time to experience the effects of high Estrogen levels… however, the Proscar would have counteracted this in the prostate by surpressing DHT and shrinking your prostate. When you quit, however, the high Estrogen levels may remain which could potentially be causing you problems (just a thought). Lots of guys end up with sky-high E2 (Estradiol) after taking Finasteride…

Did you have any other side effects from the drug? Sexual, mental, etc that are listed in the FAQ at the top of this site?

It took me well over 14 months for things to begin even getting back to ANY sense of normalcy in terms of the side effects I experienced… but I am still sitting here 2 years off the drug with no sex drive, shrunken penis/nuts, loss of sensitivity to both, decreased ejaculate and memory recall/stuttering issues, amongst other things.

The peeing urgency issue has subsided somewhat but I notice now that when I need to go, I need to go fast. I can’t seem to hold it as easily as before the drug.

I hi read your thread it appears this drug really did cause you a lot of trouble. I will get further blood work done. After you stopped proscar did you continue taking something else for the hair loss or did you just leave it.No major symptoms other than the pain in the groin area and the odd left nut pain. Libido and everything in that department seemed better than before on proscar which is strange. With the peeing problem have you ever had an “accident” ? Because i too had trouble holding it in.

i had new blood work done and the RCC still stays elevated. Any idea what that could mean?

Can’t you just realize “Proscar [fucks up] your prostate” and not necessarily always shrinks it!
Mew, how many people have you seen on here with urinary symptoms?
MANY, MANY!!
Finasteride fucks with your prostate, whether it be shrinking, changing the size, or shrinking then enlarging, or just distorting, this shit deprives your prostate of androgens, and it size CHANGES, hence therefore creating ALL SORTS OF URINARY PROBLEMS!

It is not an exact science here people, with knowledge of exact symptoms!

Think outside the box people! Study your anatomy! Look at the complex relationship of the prostate to bladder and urethra, and all the sphincters, muscles, and nerves! Any slight changes can easily cause URINARY PROBLEMS!!!
