Have i done the right thing?

in deciding to go off propecia?

Ive taken it for the past 6 months, i think ive got a marginal benefit but hard to measure any real difference in all honesty.

The only side effect was some ball ache (slight discomfort). After reading this site i decided to kick it to the kerb (ball aches stopped already - i also took antibiotics in case of infection).

I had no other side effects at all but i decided it wasnt a thing i wanted to play with for no guaranteed benefit!!

I posted a thread on hairloss talk and got flamed for saying people need ot be more careful about it. I just dont want to play with my fertility.

Have i been rash given i didnt show any real side effects? I wouldnt call it a bad experience and most on here probably went off it due to a bad experience.

OR better safe than sorry?

The problem is nobody knows what will happen when they first take, continue to take, or quit the drug.

Some guys get no problems for years, then BAM – get hit with the sides. Some guys go on indefinitely without problems. For others (like me) they showed up within the first few days and never resolved even though I continued taking it, and got worse after I quit.

So really – it comes down to personal choice as to what is most important to you – health or hair. As you can read in the Studies section, the method of action by which Finasteride enables you to keep your hair is one primarily of surpressing DHT, which shrinks the prostate… but Finasteride also inhibits the production of various other neurosteroids in the body and brain.

Think about that for a second… think about HOW the drug works, what it is doing. Do you think its mechanisms of action are “safe”, “normal” or “guaranteed” not to cause problems to an organism when certain hormones/neurosteroids are blocked, and those tissues and functions which are dependent on those hormones/neurosteroids are deprived of them?

The bottom line is that DHT was put in our bodies for a reason, and its NOT to make you go bald (blame the hair follicles for that). If you want to take a drug that will enable you to keep your hair at the POSSIBLE risk of problems down the road, go right ahead. Just be aware that this is a personal choice on your behalf and there are no guarantees with drugs that affect or disrupt the endocrine system.

yeah, it seems there is no way out of this. the poison caused a multiple damage in our system for good. i have never been helpless like this.

Colin take it from me, you’ve definately done the right thing. The sooner one comes off this drug the better, there’s probably a better chance your body will recover if you’ve only taken it for a short period of time. I’d been on it for around 7 years and came off of it a year ago, I’m in worse shape now.

Just noticed this thread. I cant even remember posting it.

I cant even remember for sure if i took it for 6 months before or not, my recollection was i took it on and off for a few months and then just gave up. So in my head i had never really gave propecia a run of it.

I went back on it Feb 2009. I should have listened.

Same story here… I kept going on and off trying to make it work for me, I should have listened from the start.
