Has anyone had the side effects STARTING only AFTER stopping the medication?

When did the side effects appear?

Good evening. I realise this is a forum for people suffering from side effects caused by Finasteride. Fortunately I am not yet one of these cases. However, I’ve been taking Finasteride for a long time, almost 7 years without stopping. First I took Proscar then Finasteride (generic), always 1/4 of a pill - (1,25mg a day).

After viewing your forum today, and other websites about the same subject, I was absolutely astonished, for I did not have a clue the side effects could be so huge - and permanent! I was convinced this was a safe drug, with the exception that it should not be handled by pregnant women.

That’s why I took the decision of stopping the treatment right away. I prefer to be bald than to have to pass through this hell. That is way I wanted you to please answer me:

1 - Has anyone had the side effects STARTING only AFTER stopping the medication? Am I in risk of developing them now, or since I am good now, nothing will happen when I stop?
2 - Should I stop the medication suddenly, or is it advisable to stop gradually? If so, how much time should I take reducing the dosis?

I cannot imagine the suffering many of you are passing, I can only hope the best and quick recovery for you all. I have friends that are taking Finasteride too, and I will warn them and everyone I know about what is not being told about this drug.

Read FAQ at top of site for some answers and spend some time reading this section for more.

In short if you want to quit then GET BLOODWORK done before quitting per the list in FAQ, so you’ll have something to compare against when coming off if things go wrong.

Time is of the essence so you can see what levels you were at while on the drug, since you just stopped. DHT will likely begin to return within 7-10 days and its from that point forward that most find they either continue on as normal or things take a turn for the worse and the feeling of androgen begins to fade away in the coming weeks. My guess is most likely you will be fine, however.

Nobody has an answer for that. The vast majority of men do not have problems after quitting the drug, we on this site (and others out there) are in the minority. Most likely things will be fine in the coming weeks/months.

Basically your own body will determine wether you recover or not, you have no control over it. Since you are NOT experiencing any problems at the moment, that is definitely a good sign and bodes well in your favor.

In short, yes, it is possible to experience no side effects while on the drug and have everything come crashing down once you quit. That’s what happened to me… if I experienced any sexual side effects in my time on the drug, they were unnoticeable. When I quit, that’s when all my problems started. That said, people like myself and the others on this forum are in the minority. Most likely you’ll be fine.

I’m not sure how I would answer the poll because I had some side effects on the drug and than a different set of side effects off of it. On the finasteride, I had emotional flattening and sexual side effects, but I was mentally sharp. Off the finasteride, I had the emotional and sexual issues worsen and I developed all kinds of cognitive problems. Up until about a month ago I could barely remember my name. So yes to both I guess.
