What is different about Uprima?
Uprima is the first clinically tested and medically approved oral treatment for erectile dysfunction, which works in the brain making UPRIMA totally different from any other treatment

How does Uprima work?
Unlike other oral treatments for erectile dysfunction, Uprima stimulates dopamine receptors in the brain.

These receptors in turn transmit excitatory signals down the spinal cord to the sacral parasympathetic nucleus, stimulating activity of the sacral nerves supplying the penis.

As the penile smooth muscle relaxes, the pelvic arteries dilate. The dilated arteries then fill with blood and the penis becomes erect.

How long does it take for Uprima to work?
This is the most commonly asked question! One of the main benefits of Uprima is the speed at which it works.

Once dissolved under the tongue, clinical test have shown that 34% of erections occurred within 10 minutes and 71% of erections occurred within 20 minutes.

That puts the average time to the onset of an erection at 18-19 minutes - 200% faster than Viagra!

How do I take Uprima?
It is recommended that you take the Uprima sublingual tablet 20 minutes prior to sexual activity. It is best to drink a small glass of water before taking the tablet to help the dissolving process.

After drinking the water, place the tablet under the tongue. Do not chew , just let the tablet dissolve. In the majority of patients, the tablet will be dissolved within 10 minutes.

An erection should occur when sexual activity starts.

Are there any side effects with Uprima?
The most common side-effects recorded of those using UPRIMA are as follows:

Headache - 7%
Nausea - 7%
Dizziness - 4%
Nausea is generally mild to moderate in nature declining with continued use.

What dosage of Uprima should be used?
It is recommended that patients start with a 2mg dose and increase to 3mg if necessary to reach the desired clinical effect.

In other words, first start with the 2mg dose and when you next re-order - go for the 3mg if necessary. Most of you will find that 2mg is ample and will not need to increase the dosage.

NOTE: No more than one (1) tablet should be taken in an eight hour period.

Who should not take Uprima?
Those suffering from severe unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, severe heart failure or any other condition where sexual activity is inadvisable.

Uprima should be used with caution in patients taking anti-hypertensives or nitrate medications.

Your health and well being is our primary concern and we would therefore strongly suggest that if you are in any doubt whatsoever in the use of Uprima, you must contact your own doctor for further advice.

Before taking Uprima, read thoroughly the manufacturers advise enclosed with this treatment. Again, if you are unclear as to your suitability for this treatment, consult your doctor before use.

It was given a poor write up in Wikipedia, although it sounds like it might be better to boost libido than for ED:

FDA Committee Recommends Uprima (Apomorphine) Sublingual Tablets For Erectile Dysfunction

LAKE FOREST, IL – April 11, 2000 – TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc. announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Urology Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs recommended approval for Uprima ® (apomorphine HCl tablets) sublingual for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). The committee’s favorable recommendation will be considered by the FDA in its final review of the New Drug Application (NDA) for Uprima.

The committee suggested some cautionary recommendations for labeling. In addition, the committee advised that education materials be provided to patients at the point of care.

If approved, Uprima will be the first centrally acting oral ED treatment available to patients. “Uprima could offer several benefits for patients suffering from ED,” says John Mulhall, M.D., director of the Center for Male Sexual Health at Loyola University Chicago and an investigator in the Uprima clinical trials. “In clinical trials, it worked quickly, in as fast as 10 minutes, with a median response time of 16-19 minutes. With its sublingual route of administration, it is not expected that Uprima will interact with food. Finally, data suggest that Uprima is safe and effective in men with varying severities of ED.”

Uprima sales are now permitted by the European Commission throughout Europe. Abbott Laboratories announced that it has received a marketing authorization from the European Commission for Uprima for the treatment of impotence. Uprima is the first centrally acting oral therapy to be approved by the European Commission for the first-line treatment of impotence. Uprima is a small tablet that dissolves quickly when placed under the tongue, typically producing an enhanced erection response in less than 15 minutes.

Uprima’s Novel Mode Of Action For Impotence Treatment
Since Uprima is administered sublingually (under the tongue), Uprima enters the bloodstream quickly, bypassing the gastro-intestinal tract. The rapid absorption of Uprima into the bloodstream allows for its fast onset of action, typically less than 15 minutes. This makes Uprima the fastest acting erection enhancement drug…

“Uprima offers several benefits for patients: Uprima works fast, and Uprima works similarly to the way men normally have erections,” said Professor Jeremy Heaton, of Queen’s University and Kingston General Hospital, Ontario, Canada. “Long-term data in men who continued in studies demonstrate that Uprima is successful in more than 90 percent of attempts at intercourse.”

Uprima has been off market for several years from what I read.
