  1. What (if any) treatments have you undertaken to recover from your side effects since discontinuation of the drug?
After getting side effects, I made some life changes to become more healthy to try to overcome them, and it is what I am currently still doing. I used to be very unhealthy. I am putting in all this work to TRY and reach my previous state before I was taking this drug.

  2. If you have pre or post-Finasteride bloodtests, what hormonal changes have you encountered since discontinuing the drug (pls post your test results in the “Blood Tests” section and link to them in your post)?
I have only got my T levels checked. Seems like damn near every hormone in my body has been effected, and everything is slightly off. I just feel like an old man, despite my diet, exercise and overall healthy lifestyle.

  3. Anything not listed in the above questions you’d like to share about your experience with Finasteride?
I have been through so much pain over the past 2 years. I never thought in a million years these other health issues I have could be related to fin. When I think back, my problems slowly starting coming after taking fin. First it was the sexual problems, then the mental problems, then the physical problems. Now that I am coming to this realization, it is very overwhelming. I have been on countless other medications to correct my “unrelated” issues, with no success.

  4. Tell us your story, in your own words, about your Finasteride usage and side effects experienced while on/off the drug.
I went to the dermo when I was 23 because my hair was shedding and my hair line was starting to recede. She prescribed me propecia and I started the next day. 2 days later was my first failed attempt at getting an erection. I stayed persistent, because I heard the side effects would fade. About a month later, I developed an anxiety and mood disorder. I was getting horrible panic attacks, I was constantly convinced I was dying, with horrible mood swings and also insomnia. I was constantly seeing different doctors, getting different advice and diagnoses. After a year, I decided I was unhappy with my sex life (and life in general for that matter), and I tried taking 0.5mg instead. I felt a slight bump in libido and thought I was fine. Now that it has been over 2 years, I can say that everything is worse. I was in denial too, because my hair looks great. 99% of my hair grew back and its thick and healthy. But look at the checklist above, I have almost everything on the list. I have so many stories to tell, and I could ramble on for hours about all the details. I can only pray that I return to a normal state. Like I said before, I never thought all these other issues could be related. I look forward to discussing with you guys and I wish the best for you as well.

Welcome to the site.

Since you just quit, I would recommend getting bloodwork per list here:

This is so you can see what effect the drug was having on your hormones. Time is of the essence as 5AR2 and thus DHT will likely start coming back online in next 7-10 days which will make further changes to your profile.

It’s likely the vast majority of men do not experience longterm side effects after quitting the drug. So, likely no need to worry as things should start coming back online in next few weeks. If you find your issues do not resolve in the coming months, then this forum is for you.

Thanks!

Now that i have been off fin for a while, I wanted to give an update. Things are starting to get a little better.

After about 2 weeks of stopping, everything got worse. My libido was the lowest it has ever been. I knew I had to give it time. Last time I quit taking it, I stopped for about a week, didnt see a difference, and went back on.

Over the past couple days, I feel a little bit better. I am sleeping better, I am focused, less nervous/anxious/irritable. I was definitely in denial about my sexual sides while on fin.

Thanks again

Ham, did you do anything to recover or did your body just bounce back on its own? Did you recover gradually or was it a sudden recovery?

I didnt do anything special, I just started to slowly recover. I was the worst the first month of stopping. Then, as time would go by, tings would continue to improve.

congratulation ham, you are very lucky. Did you ball shrink? to how much? 60% or 70% to their original size. how much they have come back completely? did you get any fat on your chest or gyno? did it resolve?

thanks for your time

sps

shrinkage was minimal. Big difference I noticed in that department was the very watery semen.

No fat or gyno for me. Whats weird about my case, is I actually had the most muscle mass while on fin. Seemed like my T was very high. I was very arrogant and confrontational, and I seemed to put on muscle very easy.

I continued to work out on Fin too and put on muscle. I’ve really wasted thou in the last 9 months off. I seemed to always be looking to hook up with girls while on Fin and definately had a good deal of alpha male edge goin. Complete opposite in all respects since off.

I wanted to bump this up and give an update. When I wrote the above post I was at an acceptable level, but still not 100%. I was having a lot of ups and downs. I think I was just really happy that I noticed a huge improvement. I am known to be the type to get overly excited about something and say “I’m 1000% better!!!” I would say I have plateaued at this point. Life is acceptable and I can manage through all of the situations propecia has made complicated for me. The biggest thing is how my entire life has changed to compensate for the reactions caused by this drug.

SP:What you say makes no damn sense. Think about it. There would be a million guys on this site if no one ever recovered. There wouldn’t be tons of guys claiming they had at one time developed sides from a 5ARI, but gradually regained everything that they lost. Hell, I’ve even read stories of guys who developed sexual sides from isotretinoin and saw palmetto who claim they completely recovered over time. You should know this. Every time you develop half a thought, you act as if it is fact, and often complain to the admin to cater to it.

Don’t take this guy too seriously Ham.
I’m glad you’re managing to deal with your issues. Takes a lot of strength.
