Hair transplant surgeons who insist upon Propecia

I run the hair transplant blog www.fueblog.com and I get a lot of emails from readers about Propecia. I haven’t written about my own struggles with the drug yet but I am thinking about doing so in future, which would enable me to reach thousands of men and warn them about the dangers involved before it’s too late.

Here is an email I received just tonight from a reader.

I would like to ask you if you used propecia prior to he surgery or after it. The reason i am asking is that dr x and dr x insisted that i have to take propecia before doing any surgery and they refused to take me as a patient if i do not follow their instructions.

I have censored the names of the doctors for now. I am very curious about your thoughts on doctors who demand their patients take Propecia before they are willing to perform hair surgery. I am meeting with a very well respected hair transplant surgeon next week, and may have the opportunity to discuss this issue with him. I believe he may be receptive to our concerns about this drug as he does not insist upon use of Propecia, but it’s obviously a very complicated and divisive issue, so I am not quite sure if I’ll approach it or how.

Thoughts?

If that is you in all the photos, on the bright side you look pretty healthy, considering what fin can do.

I would warn people, these hair loss docs are mostly out to profit from others misery, we need to get the message out about the long term dangers of fin.

this is pretty simple. doctors demand you use finasteride so that you don’t lose additional hair. you can transplant your hairline and a little bit more… but it’s impossible to get a hair transplant of your ENTIRE head. there’s simply not enough donor hair for this. if you continue balding, then your hair will continue falling out and it’s possible you will get an odd effect of how the hair looks. so it makes it look really bad for the doctor in the future if the patient doesn’t use finasteride and they start complaining.

Are hair transplants ineffective without fin? If so hair loss doc are never going to admit fin is dangerous, because it would put them out of business.

pretty much… unless you can find some other way to stop continuous hair loss or you get a hair piece or something.

Some docs, such as mine, will not insist on Propecia, as long as there is some plan for future hair loss and they’ve advised you accordingly.

I’m going to write an article for my blog about the topic. Bear in mind I get quite a decent amount of traffic, so this is a very good opportunity to put word out to men who are not aware of PFS.

If anyone has further ideas about my post or would even like to contribute, let me know!
