Not sure if this has been discussed before. Here is a company that is working on Gene Therapy for ED. They are just starting phase 2 trials. The different links state that it last for 6 months, and seems to look pretty promising. Maybe we can all volunteer for the phase 2 trials…
Yeah this is probably the big hope for all of us in the long term, provided we can sort out the other post-fin issues, seems to be aimed particularly at men who suffer post prostatechtomy problems with whom we have much in common.
I read somewhere though that Melman told a patient of his it would probably not work for him so who knows. What is interesting is that it also seems to work on libido going by the primates anyway.
Read somewhere next phase is being held up by lack of funds though…
Weird that something with as much potential as this would have trouble with funding. the market for ED in america alone is reported to be 30 million men. i read that treatment would involve an injection into the old fella every six months for about $400 a pop. do the math that’s potentially $24 billion dollars a year, and that’s just in america.
On top of that the same technology is being trialled as a treatment for weak bladder, a market of about 9.5 million in america.
And if it lives up to the hype, it’s basically superior to viagra in every way in terms of duration, cost, and most importantly side effects.
I’d have thought investors would be falling over themselves to get a piece of this action. i have a feeling any hold up from lack of funds will be temporary cause if this gets approved, anyone with shares in this will be laughing alll the way to the bank.
Luckfax, what do you mean when you say “melman told one of his patients it probably won’t work” you mean the technology? or it wouldn’t work in the case of that specific patient? because haven’t phase 1 trials shown it to be extremely promising?
Hm. Would this apply to us though? There’s no catch due to the (fucked up) nature of our condition?
Seems to work in men with even severe ed.
Mariobros, I read in a forum somewhere that a who has Melman as his uro was told it would be no good for him, think he may have had venuous leakage or similar.
Read just the other day that another patient of Melman was suing him for $1 million in monies he’d paid in to the venture and hadn’t yet seen any back. Don’t know if this bodes ill or not.
My big fear would be big pharma trying to block or prolong its entry as it has the potential blow the billion dollar ed industry out of the water.
I don’t see how this applies to us. If they could successfully upregulate 5AR2, THAT would be of interest.
This is not close to attacking the cause of our problems, and what about the other symptoms (mental, anxiety, depression, scrotal etc)?
Surely HRT is the only way.

Well, the fact is, not everyone here is suffering from all of the same symptoms or to the same extent. Yeah, obviously there are a lot of guys who are crippled by both the mental issues and sexual dysfunction, but there are also guys who only really fall into one of the two camps. For those whose main problem is the latter, this could actually be really encouraging provided that it would work on us. And if Viagra works just fine for some guys, then it stands to reason that this might be even better due to the lack of side effects - a “cure” if you will.
Yeah, i think venous leakage is a pretty severe physical problem, if you have a serious venous leak i don’t think even viagra would work for you.
That’s strange cause i wouldn’t think you could sue someone for a return on investment when the product hasn’t even been released to the market yet. i mean, ofcourse they wouldn’t have made any profits yet.
I agree wholeheartedly, this is a bandaid 100%. but it would be a welcome one all the same. something like this would just help to make life a bit closer to normal. and there are some post fin guys that still experienced ED even with TRT.
I asked my uro about this and he said it would take 15-20 years and was not a miracle cure, i.e. it only lifted men up a certain level. Seemed to know what he was talking about as he witnessed some of Melman’s work. Maybe he was just trying to not get my hopes up.
