Future Clinical Study on Post Finasteride Effects (your info needed)

Shawn Bean (some of you may know him as the Matrix, Hans, or the medical advisory who works with Dr Overbeck) is looking for information on any tests or diagnoses you have had post Finasteride regarding the immune system and neurological system.

Once he has gathered enough information he will present to a research journal, among other research facilities he has connections to for a possible clinical study on the effects that Finasteride has on the immune system and neurological system.

He currently has worked with a number of PFS patients and is starting to see some trends (nuerological I believe), but more info info is needed.

A thread by Dr Chrisler on why this guy was banned from the ‘All Things Male’ Forum. Gets quite disturbing towards the end - especially in regards to the symbiotic financial relationship between ‘Shawn’ and this ‘Dr Overbeck’.

Yep, HAN is dodgy as you like. He is on every single one of the hormone/ bodybuilding forums desperately trying to sell his services. He even tries to rope vulnerable guys into paying for web consultations, as if you can actually treat somebody from talking with them over the internet.

He’s probably just trying to cash in on an opportunity with us. I won’t be sending him anything.

I have not been contacted about this study. Please ask them to contact me about this and provide study protocol details and relevant info, rather than post it in the open at this stage. Thanks.

There is no denying that the Shawn is very controversial (he says groundbreaking) and a lot of guys will tell you that he is a narcissist, including myself. I have said on here that Dr Crisler has similar qualities and tell guys not to waste their $$ with him. That does not change the fact that I would whole-heartily help and follow with any research Dr Crisler would conduct.

The fact is that Shawn is using his connections to help with PFS, so regardless of his personality he is willing to help. That is all that matters regarding this thread.

Sending him info. is different than paying him money for a consultation. Any research on the syndrome at this point is welcomed by me.

I agree with what Bluecloud had to say about him. I had the same experience with him. He’s just looking to cash in over unfortunate situation and doesn’t have anything to offer us. He’s not even a doctor. This is a huge waste of time doing anything with this clown.

I also emailed him that same day. He replied to me the next morning -

I simply asked what info he required.

This was his response (i assume he is happy for me to post this, it isn’t in any way controversial)…

Personally i am open to helping where possible. If he is open to pushing things through the right channels then im all for it.

I would ask for names of those guys he is treating from this forum. I don’t believe for 1 second that one of them wouldn’t have mentioned it, especially considering that he has apparently found potential causes to there issues.

Interesting that he has thus far not replied to my email as the Administrator of this site, which I’m sure he is well aware of.

Will be interesting to see if he addresses the points I asked.

There are a few things that make me feel uneasy about this proposition. In the past, this has been a pretty reliable indicator that something is amiss, especially for matters relating to PFS. I would suggest those who decide to contact him to be cautious in offering sensitive information.

One concern, amongst others, is that I would expect him to directly address us if he is truly interested in pursuing research projects on our medical condition.

Here are your answers that others have received talking to him. I just sent an email asking about whether this will be fully funded and why he is ignoring you (lol). Like he already said he is looking for preliminary info form users as of this moment.

What type of study is it (what is the hypothesis and investigation purpose)? Looking for info on fina effects on immune system and neurological systems. We are planing on focusing these areas with neurotransmitter testing, adrenal, and cytokins testing.

  • Who is undertaking the study (Names, titles (ie MD, PHD etc)) Him, Dr Overbeck, and NueroScience
  • Where is it being performed. The US of A. East Coast.
  • How is it being performed. Urinalysis
  • When is it being performed. In the future.
  • What tests are being performed. Looking for info on fina effects on immune system and neurological systems. We are planing on focusing these areas with neurotransmitter testing, adrenal, and cytokins testing.
  • Costs involved to the patient (if any)? this is the one question not answered yet and the one that concerns me and others. hoewever he mentions that NueroScience is already involved in a funded study on PTSD that he is getting involved in
  • Goals and outcomes (paper published? In what journal?). No idea but is it that important?
  • Other relevant protocol details

This is very important. We don’t know who “Shawn Bean” is, what his credentials are, what has instigated his interest in PFS, and what he expects to get out of the study he proposes.
Given that some lawsuits have recently been filed against Merck, we can expect them to engage in the slimiest methods to slander us, discredit us, and discourage us from accomplishing our goals whether they are scientific or otherwise.
It is going to be very important for us to be cautious going forward and there are many reasons why this person would make us uncertain about partnering with him.

Until this individual:

  1. Replies to my email
  2. Elaborates on what his credentials are
  3. Answers the questions in significant detail

… I am not inclined to pursue or endorse this initiative at this time. The user “Frustrated” has provided reasoning that I am in agreement with.
