First Post - Harie's Story & Bloodtests

Hello to all, I’m very glad I found this website I have been reading for a couple of months now, this is my first post. I took 1mg propecia from Sept 2004 through March 2005. Approximately 6 months, during these six months my symptoms included, low libido, watery sperm, itchy nipples, brain fog (especially slurring over words) increased anxiety & stress, abdominal pains, joint pain & weakness, My dermatologist who prescribed my Propecia, ignored most of these symptoms & told me they were in my head. After my 6 month follow up appointment with him on February 24, 2005 I decided to quit propecia a few weeks later. A couple of weeks after stopping propecia my libido returned full force, but this only lasted a short time. It has been almost two years since I stopped taking propecia & my libido is like a rollercoaster ride, up & down. At times a believe I have fully recovered & there are times have no desire for sex, I have kept this secret inside & have not told anyone included my long time girlfriend. I don’t know if I have returned to normal. I waited a long time to finally get my hormones checked two years after the fact. I’m only 25 years old & don’t know if this is normal. Are there any good doctors or endrocologist in the greater Vancouver area. ? Below are a list of my recent blood/hormone tests. My results are in the bold, any help would be greatly appreciated. I may need more tests. Thank you all quick note I do not know what my Estradiol range is it may need to be converted. Thank you all.

Albumin 44 35-50 g/L

ALT 32 20-55 U/L

AST 27 15-35 U/L

TSH 2.6 0.38-5.5 mU/L

Estradiol 154 <220 Pmol/L
Method changed no change to reference interval

Testosterone 13.5 10.0-30.0 nmol/L

Free Testerone 363 200-800 pmol/L
Method of Vermeulen

Bioavailable Testosterone
Method Of Vermeulen 8.7 5-20 nmol/L

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin 27 10-70 nmol/L

Can someone please shed some light on my situation BUMP !

Your E2 is a bit high (~ 42 in American values, optimal range 10-30 for men)

Liver Enzymes (AST, ALT) appear to be ok.
Albumin seems middle of the road but probably isn’t a major problem, although it can bind up some Free T.

T, Free T and Bio T are in the lower end of the range… not good.

SHBG looks decent but would probably be best around ~ 15-20 (I’ll let Hypo answer that one)…

TSH is middle of the road but would be better if it was closer to 2.00 as per the new testing standards/range changes where anything above 3.0 is considered Hypothyroidism.

Do you have LH, FSH results as well? Your results appear similar to mine when I came off (check them in this forum area).

Anyway looks to me like your T is pretty low and you need to find ways to get it up… heavy weight training consistently may help… and possibly try bringing Estradiol down via natural supplements like DIM or possibly small dose of Anti-Es such as Arimidex…

Best to discuss with an endo that is willing to work with you on this.

The way I see you have relatively low total and free testosterone.

Many endocrinologists would treat that total testosterone leve as hypogonadal to begin with- certainly in a man under 40.

In the UK they talk about treating total testosterone levels around the 10nmol/l mark and I know of a few guys being treated in the UK with your levels.

Your estradiol level though is through the roof!!!

The normal reference range for males goes FAR to high.

Not only that but becauae your total and free testosterone is low the relative estrogen dominence is FAR more pronounced.

I would expect someone in your shoes to score over 30 on the hypogonadal checklist- it is on the main forum- possibly second or third page down.

I would expect you to be VERY emotional and want to burst into tears quite easily, I would expect you to have or be developing gynecomastia. I would expect your libido and erectile function to be a problem. You may also have sweats/hot flushes and even dry skin on the forehead and hands.

If this is the case it is because of a very poor androgen to estrogen ratio.

In short that estradiol level needs to come down greatly, probably to arround 75nmol/l.

If estradiol is lowered you might have enough free testosterone to feel good, certainly you would be a lot better off.

If that is not enough to help you, you would need to consider TRT.

But first and foremost you need to see an endocrinologist willing to prescribe arimidex.

I hope that helps a little

Please post back and let me know your hypogonadal checklist score.

No. His estradiol is perfectly ok within the range. He did not check progesteron and all the symptoms you imagined him to have are directly related to elevated progesteron, which he unfortunetely did not check. His estradiol is within the range and perfectly ok.

Hypo or anybody, is there a chance puffy nippels wil return normal with trt.

If anything, TRT may lead to increased Estrogen conversion due to all the extra T in your body. You should closely monitor your Estradiol levels as high levels can lead to gyno, there are medications which can be prescribed to keep E2 in range.

In other words, TRT will not lower your puffy nips, but may increase your chance of getting them.

Harie - Do you still come to this site?

I had pretty much the same values for my blood tests and experienced panic, depression, anxiety, brain fog, and all around craziness. All this started to get better once I addressed the Estradiol issue. If Estradiol is too high and T is too low you can develop some terrible problems. I asked my Endo about having elevated E and he said that if it becomes too elevated it starts to lower LH and FSH which will cause your Testosterone to fall/shut down. What I did was start to go to the gym and lift weights, do lots of cardio to lose weight, cut out all sugars and caffeine and alcohol, avoid any kind of soy products, and get lots of sleep every night because this is when your adrenals/testes will replenish your testosterone. You might want to try the same.

majkellos - Once again you have NO idea what you are talking about. I’m surprised you didn’t tell him it was 5AR or adrenals or them “ciogarets” you smoked that’s causing his probs. Are you an undercover Endo? I suggest you reread Hypo’s response.

I have a graet deal of ideas what it is about.

If Estradiol is within range it is WITHIN RANGE!

More… There are lots of males who have a fantastic sex life with fantasic sex eager who have a low range of testosteron… Ask any endocrynologist…

Most hormonal issues concerning long term use of Fonasteride are associated with Progesteron. Progesteron when not converted to its metabolites can supress LH, FSH and it is also the most potent natural DHT inhibitor. When you take fin it is possible to have it elevated for a long period. More… your body can keep a tendency to store progesterone.

I wonder how many people here realy got progesteron test done…
